Could you be the full-time V.I.E. Robotics Engineer in Hornell, NY we’re looking for?
About the Role
This position is based at Alstom’s Hornell, New York facility—the largest Alstom manufacturing site in the United States and a key center for stainless-steel rail vehicle production. In this role, you will work on a state-of-the-art robotic production line, utilizing the latest FANUC robotics and Siemens PLC technologies to manufacture modern rail car bodies.
This opportunity offers hands-on involvement in advanced automation and robotic welding projects within a global, innovation-driven industrial environment. Your contributions will play a direct role in shaping the next generation of rail transportation through the application of cutting-edge manufacturing technologies.
Your future role
Take on a new challenge and apply your robotics and industrial engineering expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside innovative, collaborative, and driven teammates.
You’ll make an impact by supporting the deployment of advanced robotic systems in our industrial operations, contributing to the production of rolling stock and components. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (robotics engineers, process experts, and industrial functions), develop and validate offline robot programs, and ensure optimal cycle times and system reliability.
You’ll specifically take care of simulating and calibrating robotic systems, but also assist during on-site testing and ramp-up phases.
We’ll look to you for:
- Developing offline programs for robotic cells in current projects
- Transferring layouts and robotic configurations from Process Simulate to Real Time Robotics (RTR)
- Calibrating virtual models with real robots
- Simulating and validating robot paths, cycle times, and collision detection
- Adjusting programs based on simulation results and shopfloor feedback
- Coordinating with robotics and automation engineers to ensure smooth system integration
- Assisting during on-site testing, validation, and ramp-up of robotic systems
- Developing technical documentation and guidelines for offline programming tools
- Capturing feedback from production and commissioning to improve future developments

- Familiarity with robotic systems and automation technologies

- Experience or understanding of manufacturing and robotics (appreciated)
- Fluent English communication skills
- Able to foster communication between multiple stakeholders
- Team spirit and adaptability to work in a multicultural environment
- Driver’s license (appreciated)
