Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your engineering and process optimization expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside collaborative and innovative teammates.

Alstom is seeking a Continuous Improvement Manager (Site APSYS Leader) for our Hornell, NY facility. This role is a key member of the site leadership team and is responsible for driving operational excellence through lean principles and continuous improvement initiatives. You will lead the deployment of APSYS (Alstom Performance System), our global program for improving safety, quality, cost, and delivery performance (SQCD). You’ll have the backing of site leadership and a global APSYS community, plus the opportunity to shape how teams work—turning everyday improvements into measurable gains in SQCD.

We’ll look to you for:

Lead Continuous Improvement Deployment:

  • Develop and implement the site’s APSYS roadmap aligned with business objectives.
  • Facilitate lean initiatives and improvement projects across all departments.

Coach and Train:

  • Train and mentor teams on lean principles and tools (5S, VSM, Kaizen, problem-solving).
  • Support leaders and teams in applying these tools to real operational challenges.

Performance Assessment:

  • Organize and lead APSYS self-assessments and maturity reviews.
  • Monitor progress and report improvement status to site leadership and APSYS network.

Knowledge Sharing:

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Share best practices internally and across other Alstom sites.

Network Engagement:

  • Participate in APSYS events and contribute to global CI initiatives.
  • Occasional travel to other sites for assessments and knowledge exchange.

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Degree in a technical or engineering field (or related discipline).
  • Proven track record of lean deployment and continuous improvement leadership within heavy industries (e.g., rail, automotive, aerospace, heavy machinery).
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience with exposure to multiple departments and operations.
  • Experience with repetitive production lines and/or shop-floor (preferred).
  • Ability to coach senior management and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in operational environments with measurable results.
  • Strong knowledge of lean tools (5S, standard work, gemba walks, VSM, root cause analysis).
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills; comfortable in multicultural environments.
  • Data-driven, results-oriented, and collaborative mindset.
  • Experience leading site-level change initiatives or large CI programs (preferred).
  • Participation in broader CI networks or training deployments (preferred).
