Nomad Digital are recruiting for a Field Service Engineer to join our Operations & Maintenance Team - the role is based in San Jose, California.

 

What will I be doing?

As a Field Service Engineer you will be responsible for responding to electronic tickets and attending relevant vehicles to resolve hardware and software issues with our mobile network infrastructure. Field Engineers must develop working relationships with many manufacturers and Rail/Bus operators in order to be effective. 

 

You'll be joining a global division in an exciting phase of transformation as we partner with customers, internal teams, and our parent company Alstom, to excel our approach to exceptional Field Service Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and repair on-train/bus network infrastructure including router, cellular modems, and access points
  • Onsite trouble shooting and Root Cause analysis
  • Travel within with the region of 100 miles from San Francisco, to go on sites to operate the vehicles.
  • Keep tickets up-to-date with timely updates regarding work performed or new problems discovered
  • Maintain work schedule around vehicle availability, supervised by Field Service Manager
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and request replenishment when necessary
  • Ensure that priority work is being undertaken
  • Assist Project Managers in completing project tasks such as upgrades, testing, commissioning, and installations

 

Experience and Qualification requirements:

  • Network equipment installation and maintenance – Essential
  • Passenger / Freight rail experience – Preferred or Transportation experience
  • Experience supporting Wi-Fi and Cellular systems - Preferred
  • Work within an electronic ticket system – Essential
  • Good in-person, phone, and email communication skills - Essential
  • Microsoft Office – Essential
  • Basic knowledge of LINUX/UNIX systems – Essential
  • Scripting within LINUX/UNIX - Preferred
  • Experience with data cabling and various interfaces - Essential
  • Able to terminate and repair ethernet cables - Essential
