Purpose of role
The control systems software team is a small team who work in an agile manner to develop a range of applications used in the day to day operation of the railway directly by the operators. We also support the application engineering teams on their execution of project deliverables.
Defining, Implementing, Testing and Supporting various applications used by Signalling Operators and Maintainers in the day to day running of the both the UK railway and Ireland’s Railway. Ensuring Alstom’s product range remains cutting edge and is highly usable while proactively dealing with obsolescence issues prior to them occurring. Bring together the best industry practice of the software industry with the long established safety culture of the railway.
Introduction of Alstom’s next generation Signallers Workstation MCS Infinity which features 4 Ultra wide curved monitors, and 2 touchscreen kiosk monitors that the signallers will use to signal trains all the network. Couple this with M-ARS Alstom’s newly created Automatic Route Setting system which features an industry first electronic timetable simplifier that can be dynamically, replacing paper printed copies that require scribbling on.
What are my key responsibilities?
- Resolution of feature requests and bugs utilising the following languages/technologies (C#, WPF, .Net Framework, .Net Core, MS SQL, Entity Framework, RabbitMQ, PRISM, Python, C++)
- Leading any discussions around the solution with key stakeholders
- Contribute to and lead discussions in daily standups, sprint demos, retrospectives and sprint planning.
- Mentor and Coach junior team members.
What do I need to qualify for this job?
Essential Requirements
- Competencies Background in software development with specific experience of development of Windows™ applications using a variety of hardware interfaces.
- Intel assembler
- Familiar with Visual Studio 2017
- Experience in using WPF, PRISM, Entity Framework, SQL Server
- Understanding of code versioning tools
- SQL Server DBA
Desirable Requirement
Knowledge of-

- UDP/IP, TCP/IP and serial communication programming
