Role Summary/Purpose

Alstom has an opening for a Product Solution Engineer (PSE). A PSE is a key role in the Alstom signaling business and serves to connect customers to Alstom product and service solutions. PSEs are experts in train control equipment, crossing equipment, switch machines, and relays and apply their application knowledge to solve customer needs. PSEs also represent the voice of the customer back into the business to help influence product features and capabilities. PSEs serve customers in transit, short-line, class-one, and international railroads.

A PSE will work directly with Product Managers, Account Executives, Product Design Engineering, and Application Engineering to help shape product features, formulate customer plans, and execute customer strategies that meet customer needs. In addition, the PSE will work directly with customer engineering design teams to form technical relationships and help the customer adopt Alstom product, service, and technology solutions. Finally, the PSE will work directly with customer field and engineering teams to help resolve technical product issues.

 A PSE will travel up to 30% of the time on average to fulfill their wide spectrum of responsibilities.


Essential Responsibilities 

  • Establish product pilot sites for testing and customer product acceptance
  • Analyze product performance and test data from the field and the lab
  • Generate product performance and problem analysis reports
  • Communicate product capabilities and design recommendations to customers
  • Support all technical aspects of strategic business initiatives executed for customers
  • Develop and test product application programs
  • Generate and review technical documentation
  • Provide product and application training
  • Advise on product application options
  • Test and critique new product features
  • Troubleshoot customer field issues in the field and through lab simulations
  • Support manufacturing needs through analysis and ECO generation
  • Manage multiple initiatives balancing cost, schedule, and quality concerns



  • Bachelors degree in engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 2 years of railroad signal experience applying wayside signaling, crossing, and/or switch machine products to the railroad while resolving field issues; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Willingness and ability to travel about 30% of the time, including international travel.


Desired Characteristics: 

  • Railroad Signal Engineering, Crossing, Switch Machine, and/or Wayside experience
  • Product Development and/or Communication Systems experience
  • IP/Networking experience
  • Customer interface experience with strong customer presence
  • Methodical troubleshooter and problem solver
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a multi-site, team environment
