Purpose of the job

Carry out work activities of preventive, corrective maintenance, and repairs on shift duty to the PS&D System.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the safety, availability, and reliability of the Power supply and Distribution (PS&D)System including the power substation equipment, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), cabling, OCS, and the “Blue Light Stations” (BLS)
  • Access to vehicles, tracks, spares, materials, tools, equipment, training, manuals, and procedures for the PS&D maintenance
  • Recommending and implementing techniques and procedures that ensure maintenance to the PS&D System is conducted safely, reliably, efficiently
  • Diagnosis and rectification of failures and emergency incidents within established guidelines
  • The PDS technician supports a 7-day week rail operation, working rotating shifts, on a continuous seven-day cycle performing all technical work related to TPS maintenance
  • Adherence to the Custodial, Preventative, and Rehabilitation Maintenance schedules
  • Inspects, tests, and repairs internal distribution cables and electrical substation equipment
  • Performs inspections, maintenance, and repairs on traction power voltage, monitoring systems, charging systems, circuit breakers, and other TPS components
  • Troubleshoot, analyze and isolate malfunctions, inspect, test, modify and maintain traction power voltage, monitoring systems, charging systems, circuit breakers, and other TPS components
  • Performs complex repair troubleshooting; safely using and maintaining hand and power tools and test equipment related to work
  • Performs preventative maintenance on traction power substations, and maintains parts inventory to maintain proper working conditions
  • Ensures proper safety precautions are followed, particularly around energized circuits
  • Prepares written reports, documents defects and repairs on inspection forms and on work orders using maintenance software
  • Operates boom, bucket, and tower truck, and other equipment and tools. Performs other duties as required
  • Conduct daily tailboard meetings and complete appropriate Hazard Risk Assessment forms
  • Work with and assist other departments as needed. Actively participates in safety meetings and Emergency Preparedness
  • Taking contingency actions as required in the shortest time to prevent unnecessary interruptions of power or delay in service
  • Work with other agents as required to ensure the safety and reliability of the system

 

Job Requirements

 

  • Technical College / Institute /High school graduate, with training in electrical engineering or technology
  • Electrician, 309A that is valid and up to date
  • High Voltage experience is an Asset
  • Experience in PS&D System/equipment maintenance or in railways or relevant transportation industry is advantageous
  • Specialized or cross-functional knowledge / relevant experience required by the position/role
  • Knowledge or the ability to rapidly attain a thorough knowledge of operation and maintenance rules, plans, procedures and instructions and relevant technical information
  • Ability to understand instructions and carry out all the diverse PS&D System maintenance functions
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to maintain a rapport and deal courteously with others
  • Possession of a road vehicle license ( Class G ) is mandatory
  • Understanding of the various departments, and agencies and the ability to work with them
  • Ability to participate in the Maintenance of other assets ( Lighting, Switch Heaters, Security Assets )
  • Adherence to and Knowledge of Policies, Procedures, S.O.P, and ability to follow up-to-date Rules, Regulations, and Legislation.
