Join us as Fleet Support Engineer, and you’ll be looking at a career-defining role based in Toronto, ON, CA supporting the Eglinton and Finch LRT Project. 
 

Reporting to the Service Engineering, Project Engineering Maintenance Manager, the Fleet Support Engineer's role is to ensure that the customer's operations and maintenance mission are well supported, investigated, and provided solutions to their car availability issues. The Fleet Support Engineer will also act as Alstom's representative in the customers facilities and will assist the various internal teams with issues related to maintenance and on-site coordination of project-related activities and during design reviews when requested.

You'll be creating great value as you use your engineering skills to maximize performance and reliability from a maintenance perspective while working on Light Rail transportation projects.

 

We’ll look to you for:

  • Support, guide, troubleshoot, investigate, collaborate with systems engineer, propose new solutions, follow implementation and correction, and test the changes.
  • Lead all engineering activities related to changes in GSI: i.e: Task list update, modifying work methods statements, update tool list, update BOM's
  • In the event of a service incident, provide technical advice to drivers and traincrew to minimise delay minutes in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Coordinate and provide operational support for any service incidents.
  • Utilise existing business tools to determine the appropriate corrective actions following an event.
  • Support Analysis of data from system downloads to determine the appropriate corrective actions following an event.
  • Review the fleet defect position to minimise the risk of service failures.
  • Provide technical and operational advice to depots in relation to service delivery.
  • Maintain a good knowledge and understanding of all train systems and running railway systems and all the business tools required to carry out the role.
  • Using all the available business tools, collate and analyse data from system downloads to report on existing defects, to identify any minor failures that require corrective maintenance, identify any failure trends and anomalies, and communicate accordingly and provide the appropriate corrective actions.
  • Liaise with other parties, both internal and external, where support and advice is required.
  • Assures the update of the technical documentation of the projects.
  • Accompany test runs when required.
  • Be aware of and support corporate problem-solving tools e.g., 8D, PDCA etc.
  • Where requested become actively involved in Kaizen, Lean and generic business improvement methodologies in a supporting role.
  • Act in a safe and professional manner at all times, both on site and when representing Alstom at external suppliers or customers locations.
  • Comply fully with Alstom's People Management procedures and the business Environmental, Quality and Health and Safety policies.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical, or related field.
  • 5 years’ experience in engineering related field combined with experience in the field of public transit vehicles in a manufacturing and/or maintenance environment.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP GSI (essential)
  • Knowledge of IBM Maximo an asset
  • knowledge of transit railway workshops and operating environment with respect to processes, procedures, and safety.
  • Good knowledge in the following areas: electromechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Good knowledge of reading the mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Utilize your skills in strategic system thinking.
