Purpose of the job

As an Electrical/Mechanical Technician, you will provide technical expertise in troubleshooting and repairing electrical/mechanical problems on equipment. Provide coaching and guidance to other staff to heighten their abilities . A role model for timekeeping, and a team player, who demonstrates organizational commitment and awareness. Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the safety, availability, and reliability of the Power supply and Distribution (PS&D)System including the power substation equipment, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), cabling, OCS, and the “Blue Light Stations” (BLS)
  • Access to vehicles, tracks, spares, materials, tools, equipment, training, manuals, and procedures for the PS&D maintenance
  • Recommending and implementing techniques and procedures that ensure maintenance to the PS&D System is conducted safely, reliably, efficiently
  • Diagnosis and rectification of failures and emergency incidents within established guidelines
  • The PDS technician supports a 7-day week rail operation, working rotating shifts, on a continuous seven-day cycle performing all technical work related to TPS maintenance
  • Adherence to the Custodial, Preventative, and Rehabilitation Maintenance schedules
  • Inspects, tests, and repairs internal distribution cables and electrical substation equipment
  • Performs inspections, maintenance, and repairs on traction power voltage, monitoring systems, charging systems, circuit breakers, and other TPS components
  • Troubleshoot, analyze and isolate malfunctions, inspect, test, modify and maintain traction power voltage, monitoring systems, charging systems, circuit breakers, and other TPS components
  • Performs complex repair troubleshooting; safely using and maintaining hand and power tools and test equipment related to work
  • Performs preventative maintenance on traction power substations, and maintains parts inventory to maintain proper working conditions
  • Ensures proper safety precautions are followed, particularly around energized circuits
  • Prepares written reports, documents defects and repairs on inspection forms and on work orders using maintenance software
  • Operates boom, bucket, and tower truck, and other equipment and tools. Performs other duties as required
  • Conduct daily tailboard meetings and complete appropriate Hazard Risk Assessment forms
  • Work with and assist other departments as needed. Actively participates in safety meetings and Emergency Preparedness
  • Taking contingency actions as required in the shortest time to prevent unnecessary interruptions of power or delay in service
  • Work with other agents as required to ensure the safety and reliability of the system

 

Job Requirements

 

  • Familiarity with AC / DC power and control systems
  • Capable of reading and understanding electrical drawings and maintenance manuals
  • Capable of using computers and computer control systems
  •  Traveling off-site to outpost locations for repairs, troubleshoot and repairing equipment.
  •   Proficient in English reading, writing and speaking skills required.

Technical skills

  • 309A or 442A in good standing
  • Minimum of 1- year work experience in the Mechanical and Electrical maintenance field.
  • Must possess a valid Class G Driver’s license.
  •  Ability to Coach others    
  • Underground/OH  HV Experience
  • Willingness to share Skill knowledge        
  • Knowledge of Rail/Vehicles          
  • Participate in all Job Briefings

             

Language skills

English  Fluent

             

Other requirements

Computer skills are an Asset

Adherence to the various Regulations as set out by Toronto Hydro, Electrical Safety Authority, Electrical Safety Association, Ontario Electrical Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Regulations for Construction Projects
