Position Summary

The role of the Asset Manager is to oversee all daily servicing, inspection, cleaning, maintenance, repair, and capital work as it relates to the Edmonton TransEd OMJV project. Ensuring the highest possible quality of workmanship, fleet, system and infrastructure safety, reliability, and availability. Validating that maintenance and repairs are being performed in full compliance with all obligations and regulations, that employees are competent, working safely, production schedules are adhered to, that fleet and system availability expectations and standards are being delivered upon. Monitoring material lead times and consumption to ensure service is protected and maintained. 

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Leads, directs, organizes and oversees assigned asset maintenance staff ensuring the Supervisory staff and Technical staff have the necessary qualifications, tools, and direction to deliver the expected results.  
  • Ensures that all work is performed in full compliance to contractual and regulatory obligation.   
  • Ensures staff is aware of and adhering to proper work processes, procedures, production plans and established Safety practices.   
  • Ensures all staff is aware of and fully trained on the maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting requirements governing all assets that make up the entire TransEd project.    
  • Ensures Supervisors perform in accordance with established company policies and contractual obligations and that matters which may not be consistent with Company policy are acted upon immediately.  
  • Confirms that all maintenance, material and repair activities are being entered into the Maximo system, that the required maintenance plans are being adhered to and that all maintenance documentation is being handled and stored as required by regulation, contract or policy.   
  • Ensures that the long-term professional development plans for each direct report is being acted upon and that results are tracked and fed back to our HR Team. 

 

 

Health, Safety, Environmental and Security

  • A good understanding of, maintaining awareness of and following relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, TransEd Operation rule book, standard operation procedures, health, safety and environmental requirements and instructions within own role and organization.
  • Continuously monitors area of responsibility to ensure compliance with legislation and TransEd safety procedures. Overall responsibility of passengers, staff and goods to enable compliance with regulations through safe and effective rail operation.
  • Maintains an awareness and follows TransEd emergency, accident/incident plan, policy and procedures.
  • Constructively challenges unsafe practice at all levels and report through the necessary channels.
  • Informs/alerts the control centre to any hazards which have been spotted along the route.
  • Understands the risk of ill health and the impact of wellbeing on the safety of an individual, others at work and the public. Understands strategies for fatigue management e.g., sleep quality, and stress management.
  • Manages own fitness to enable work to be carried out competently in order to reduce the risk to health and safety to self and all stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of requirements and process for ensuring rail safety and security on the line, at stations and depots.
  • Constantly maintains a secure environment and responds to security issues and takes appropriate action in the event of a breach of a security as accordance with company safe operation procedures, policies and safe systems of work.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited College or University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business or equivalent.   
  • A minimum of ten years relevant experience managing large complex asset management projects with preference going to an individual with experience overseeing all aspects of system asset management, including infrastructure. 
  • Experience managing and overseeing all aspects of a light rail system asset maintenance with multiple direct reports. 
  • Demonstrated ability and experience supporting / managing in a complex real-time operating environment where service recovery is mission critical. 
  • Must be very familiar with the functionality of typical modern LRV vehicles, systems, sub systems and component. 
  • Extensive knowledge of LRV maintenance practices, repair techniques, material lead times and critical components and systems. 
  • Proven experience in leading maintenance staff and activities on LRV equipment. 
  • Clear understanding of local, Provincial and Federal regulations governing the maintenance and operation of LRV type transit systems. 
  • Must be able to read and interpret complex contract deliverables as they pertain to the maintaining of large complex multi-faceted assets. 
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and team building attributes.
