Your future role 

 

We're looking for a technically skilled and safety-conscious professional to join our East Ham team. In this hands-on role, you’ll be the go-to expert for fault-finding on Elctrostar and Aventra, supporting technicians and managers with critical technical advice and leading by example in professional standards and safety. You’ll also take on important safety roles as both Designated Person and Nominated Person, ensuring the safe application of our Depot Protection System and all safe working methods.

 

We’ll look to you to:

 

  • Collaborate closely with control room staff to maintain real-time communication.

  • Work with the Shift Production Manager to ensure fleet availability targets are met.

  • Monitor ORBITA (Onboard Remote Bus Information and Telematics Application) for alerts and early fault indicators.

  • Conduct remote diagnostics using ORBITA, OTMR (On-Train Monitoring Recorder), CCTV, and other technical systems.

  • Raise and manage maintenance tasks through the MAXIMO system.

  • Review AVIS (Automatic Vehicle Inspection System) output to monitor unit health.

  • Carry out technical maintenance to the highest standards, following all documentation and instructions.

  • Ensure maintenance records are accurate, complete, and validated by the Shift Production Manager.

  • Clearly communicate any outstanding issues during shift handovers.

  • Promote and ensure compliance with all Health & Safety (H&S) legislation and depot procedures.

  • Keep your work area organised, clean, and in line with professional standards.

  • Support performance targets in Quality, Waste Reduction, On-Time Delivery, and EHS (Environmental Health & Safety).

  • Write clear, detailed reports on fault investigations.

  • Identify areas for technical or process improvement and share insights with Engineering.

  • Champion continuous improvement across all activities.

  • Support the development of team members by promoting best practices and assisting in identifying training needs.

  • HNC (or equivalent experience) in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering
  • Demonstrate excellence in approach to work and people activities
  • Good level of Electrostar Technical Knowledge. Aventra knowledge also desirable.
  • Practical hands-on approach to problem solving
  • Safety Critical Competencies
  • Experience in fault finding / Diagnostic skills electrically and mechanically
  • Highly self-motivated individual, able to work under your own initiative
  • You will possess excellent communication and Leadership Skills
  • Alstom System Knowledge (Orbita and Maximo)
  • Meticulous record keeping.
