Alstom Rolling Stock South Africa (Pty) Ltd is looking for an PI T&C Engineering Technician for our Traxx Africa project based in Durban. 

THE PURPOSE OF THE PI T&C Technician ROLE IS TO:

Carry out the test of trains in accordance with the testing procedure and as per the delivery schedule on the 23E Locomotives

 

THE MAIN RESPONSIBILITY WILL BE:

Key accountabilities:

 

  • Understand in detail the Acceptance Criteria as per the contractual requirements for the Project/Product.
  • Ensure that contractor performs the required testing and commission as per the applicable SOP in order to meet the acceptance criteria and support locomotive handover.
  • Support Manufacturing, when required to carry out the systematic Hand Over to testing.
  • Ensure and check that all Serial Test Procedures are completed and verification of test reports
  • Ensure that the documentation follows through to completion in terms of Car History Book updates/uploads
  • Participate in related meetings and engagements to ensure handover of locomotive as per MPS
  • Manage the repair of failures as soon as they appear through the contractor and ensure timeous completion as required. Lead the repairs that become the responsibility of the BTSA PI team from start to completion
  • Trace with precision and rigor each failure using the appropriate tools in a safe manor.
  • In case where faults cannot be resolved by yourself, ensure timeous escalation , escalate to the Test Manager to reduce downtime as much as possible
  • Always seek to improve the way of working within the required boundaries and propose improvements of the processes.
  • Ensure Interface and perfect working relationship with: other Test Engineering Technician, Industrial Quality, Methods and the customer teams, and any other stakeholders involve in the process
  • Report any non-up-to-date / none compliant testing tools to the manager.
  • Ensure that you are aware of the team and individual KPI’s and associated performance against the respective KPI’s to ensure that the team meets the testing schedule
  • When and if required, support with physically installations of components in the testing station
  • Report EHS Deviations, Near-misses and Accidents.
  • Monitor and report testing performance
  • Ensure that all required reporting happens on a monthly, weekly and daily basis.
  • Compliance to EHS rules and regulations at all time.
  • Support with recurring fault investigations and develop solutions to address the problem.
  • Use the available Locomotive system software diagnostic tools to assist with fault finding.
  • Devises test procedures to evaluate system performance on locomotive systems and components through failure analysis
  • Participate and lead special project for improvement of competent, sub components and improvements on the locomotive
  • Support the service sites when necessary
  • Ensure collaboration with team members to reach collective and individual objective.
  • Ensure workable relationship building and maintenance with the contactor in relation to the testing and commissioning.
  • Always act ethical and ensure compliance at all times

  • EHS (Environment, Health, Safety): Zero Fatality and Severe Injuries

  • Customer acceptance before commissioning

 

The preferred candidate will meet the following requirements: 

Educational Requirement

Mandatory:

  • B.Tech  Engineer (Electrical / Electromechanical)
  • Fluent English

 

Experience:

Mandatory:

  • Minimum 5 years working experience (at this level) in a electrical/electronic/pneumatic testing environment
  • Rolling Stock (Locomotive / train) experience will be an advantage
  • Railway safety & RAMS experience
  • Environment, Health and Safety knowledge/exposure
  • Hands on Test & Commissioning, fault finding & repair experience
  • Proven track record of Data analytics experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • experience in Industrial activities related to Electrical, Control, onboard communications & network systems within process industry, railways or factory automation
  • Be familiar with high risk activities in association with Electrical work and EHS requirements

 

Desirable:

  • Multidisciplinary Concepts in Railway Engineering
  • Rolling Stock experience will be an advantage
  • Advanced knowledge in IT Tool and smart devices
  • System Diagnostics experience will be an advance.

The ideal candidate will have the following competencies

  • Ability to have a good communication with other colleagues and other functions (engineering, manufacturing, industrial, quality, …)
  • Ability for problem-solving and efficient decision-making in environment
  • Ability to work across sites/functions in a multi-cultural environment
  • Literate with MS Office suite
  • Understanding of  computer System Diagnostic skills
  • Reading of drawings and schematics
  • Sound Mechanical and Electrical Fault-finding skills
  • Solid Electrical / Mechanical background and understanding of engineering principles
  • Accurate and analytical fault reporting and report writing
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Quality principles
  • Knowledge of maintenance engineering principles
  • Maximo knowledge will be an advantage
  • Willing to travel between sites if required
  • Competent is using Test, Faultfinding and repair tools and equipment.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willing to work shifts and standby as and when required
  • Ability to see in color
  • Good team player and be able to work in a team
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be capable of working independently
