An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Brake System Engineer to be part of the Train System team in Alstom. In this role you will responsible to identify brake system requirements, identify best fit standard solutions, specify brake control and fluid power requirements to sub suppliers, support integration design, verify static and running performance make the case for approvals and fulfil the needs of our customers.


Based in Engineering and a member of the Train System community, you will deliver technical solutions for the Derby project portfolio which includes multiple unit trains and monorails.


You will preferably have a strong Mechanical/Control/Operational Engineering background and a foundation in sub system engineering which would benefit from a strong experience of Braking systems. 


Working in multi-disciplined teams and collaborating across the Engineering team and with wider stakeholders, you will own the development of Train level brake specifications utilising existing solutions from the Alstom portfolio and identifying any developments required. You will lead activities throughout the project V-Cycle with a QDC mindset to define and deliver the required performance though verification.

As an Engineer you will have skills to;

  • Identify potential brake solutions from higher level and broader overall train requirements.
  • Identify where solutions from an existing Alstom portfolio can fit in to leverage volume benefits and world-wide relations with the supply base.
  • Identify functional and interface requirements, identify all participants and achieve common and full understanding of requirements and solutions.
  • Support verification of equipment and assembly for first in class.
  • Identify how requirements can be verified through the V cycle including multiple layers of calculation, modelling, static and on track testing.
  • Report verification data to demonstrate compliance to standards to approvals bodies and customers.    
  • Identify and resolve problems that arrive on initial operation whilst demonstrating an ethical and civic outlook.
