Your future role

 

Join the team responsible for defining the mechanical architecture of future trains in the UK and abroad.  We are looking for an experienced tolerance engineer who is an expert in tolerance management as applied to concept design and system integration on a whole train, vehicle, installation, assembly and detail level.

 

We’ll look to you for:

 

  • Driving dimensional management activities at product level from architectural definition through to serial production
  • Datum definition and alignment with manufacturing, providing stack-up analysis to inform and validate build process
  • Provide expert dimensional management support to assembly level designers
  • Support sub-system engineers with interface definition
  • Liaison with central experts and involvement with expert network to support knowledge transfer and process development
  • Stack up analysis in support of gap and flush joint definition and assembly strategy
  • A high level of cross-functional working with design, system engineering and industrial teams     

 

All about you

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent experience
  • Good knowledge of Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing (ISO and/or ASME)
  • Good knowledge of stack-up analysis from whole product down to sub-assembly level.
  • Knowledgeable in dimensional metrology
  • Highly experienced in the creation and / or interpretation of detail and assembly drawings for manufacture.
  • Experience of mechanical engineering, mechanical design in transport industry is preferable
  • Good understanding of manufacturing and assembly process and the factors influencing this in design
  • Experienced CAD user, preferably Catia V5 / V6
  • Good communicator, able to co-ordinate and / or support cross functional product development activities
