We are currently looking for a Safety Assurance Engineer in Derby that will be responsible for the Engineering Safety Management of product introduction and application project / scheme delivery.

 

 

The D&IS business is responsible for delivering application projects / schemes and introducing products across the UK rail industry. The UK Safety Assurance Team is responsible for assuring that these products and projects / schemes meet their legislative and customer requirements for safety across their operational life, from installation and commissioning through to eventual decommissioning.

 

 

Your mission:

 

  • Responsibility for undertaking Safety Assurance Activities on Projects / Schemes or Product Introductions in support of the designated Safety Assurance Manager on a project, in order to support our client’s requirements to meet Interoperability and Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment.
  • Supporting the Safety Assurance Manager on a project in ensuring that their allocated Alstom SS&I project / scheme (s) meet all necessary legislative and safety requirements and responsibilities. Engineering Safety Management, Safety Assurance, Product Acceptance and Homologation are central to the Alstom way or working.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Providing engineering safety assurance support to the Safety Assurance Manager on projects on application projects or product introduction
  • Practical Implementation of an Engineering Safety Management Lifecycle for compliance with the Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment and CENELEC Standards including:
    • Project hazard analysis / Safety Risk Activities (including technical secretary for Hazard Identification activities)
    • Hazard (Log/Record) Management, Mitigation and Closure
    • Supporting the development of safety assurance documentation including Safety Plans, Safety Cases or Safety Justification Report(s)
  • Engineering safety management liaising at all levels within Alstom SS&I (especially other members of the Safety Assurance Team, Project Manager, Contractor’s Engineering Manager and Contractor’s Responsible Engineer(s)), other parts of Alstom and possibly externally with customer or appropriate Assessment Bodies
  • Supporting in the preparation of Safety Assurance Tenders
  • Supporting the Alstom UK Regional Centre Safety Manager with regard to Safety Assurance processes, procedures and working practices
  • Processing UK Safety Assurance Key Project Indicators including ‘On Time Delivery’ of Safety Assurance documentation and Hazard Log/Record Statistics for review within the Safety Assurance team
  • Travelling regularly to other Alstom UK office locations as well as project/site offices related to their project responsibilities
  • Complying with, undertake and promote all relevant Environment, Health & Safety measures, responsibilities and activities.

 

Your experience and qualifications :

 

  • Essential:
    • Educated to Degree or Higher National Diploma or equivalent in Systems Engineering related subject with a good pass in English and Mathematics (at GCSE or equivalent)
    • Experience in at least one of: UK signalling, systems engineering or safety assurance
    • Experience in ETCS/ERTMS in trackside and/or train-borne application projects
  • Desirable:
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills (in written and spoken English)
    • Good style of concise written arguments and report preparation
    • Attention to detail
    • Ability to work to timescales and prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Understanding of:
    • Conventional UK signalling and interlocking application projects
    • Safety engineering or safety assurance and systems engineering
    • Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment and associated procedures and application
    • CENELEC Standards including BSEN50126/8/9 as well as associated procedures and application
    • Reliability Availability and Maintainability Modelling and Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System
    • Control Centre applications
    • Homologation
    • Database related applications.
