Could you be the full-time Mechanical Design Engineer to work on developing the concept design of the carbody shell and progress it to the detail design phase?

 

Your future role

Take on a new challenge by being based at our UK Rolling Stock Site and apply your Mechanical Design Engineering expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll report to Engineering Manager Carbody and Structures Domain, and work alongside a dedicated and passionate Mechanical Design Engineering team in Alstom UK&I. 

 

Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business also be involved in other duties including providing build support on existing products, participating in six sigma/8D and contributing to lean manufacturing much more.

This is a role which will involve not only Derby based projects but also projects based in other ALSTOM sites. The opportunity offers significant opportunity for career growth.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Generating conceptual ideas for the next generation of carbody design.
  • Creation of 3D CAD models for the main carbody structures using Catia V5.
  • Ensuring designs meet defined requirements of weight, cost and functionality.
  • Ensuring that designs are delivered to programme and meet applicable standards.
  • Liaison with Structural Analysis team
  • Liaison with other design departments to integrate equipment and interior systems.
  • Managing interfaces and undertaking clash detection.
  • Liaison with suppliers and production departments to develop designs and provide support during production.
  • Ensuring accuracy of manufacturing instructions i.e. drawings and parts lists.
  • Preparing and documenting Design Reviews.
  • Applying Train Design rules, processes and tools and ensuring deliverables quality and their acceptance by the Customer (internal or external) within committed limits

  • Ability to create new and innovative designs in Catia V5/Solid Edge (senior experience)
  • Ideally five years minimum experience working in rail or a related industry.
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related subject.
  • Appreciation of Structural Analysis methods

 

Desirable

  • Knowledge of aluminium extrusions highly desirable
