The Graduate Talent Development Programme will start on the 2nd September 2025
Roles available are-
- Electrical/Electronic Engineering in Widnes/Derby/Oxley (Wolverhampton)
You will complete a two-year accredited development programme whilst providing a tangible contribution to the success of the team. During the programme, you will undertake a series of rotations around the function gaining an understanding of the business and the service operation lifecycle. Developing your knowledge during your time at Alstom is key, along with developing your skills, experience and leadership mindset. Within a climate of innovation, you will support solutions to meet the customer requirements as part of the safety case and train presentation supporting the identification and delivery of continuous improvement.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Purpose of this role is to follow the Development Programme and placements leading towards a First Appointment as an Electrical Systems Engineer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As part of the UK Central Engineering Services team, you will be responsible for supporting:
- Alstom modernisation projects – A modernisation is an upgrade to an existing train to provide new or updated facilities e.g. fitting of Wi-Fi, CCTV, air conditioning etc.
- Technical support for train fleets in service
- Technical support for any potential new build train projects
The Development Programme consists of a structured 2 year scheme followed by further development in a job based role as an Electrical Systems Engineer in First Appointment.

- Design and development of processes, systems, services and products

- Professional commitment
The work content will involve:
- Developing designs that meet specification requirements for functionality, safety, reliability and cost
- Integrating electrical/electronic systems
- Producing additional documentation to support the procurement, manufacture, installation, testing and approval of the design
- Preparing for and participate in design reviews covering work undertaken by the individual and by others
- Participating in validation testing and inspection of first components
- Ensuring materials selected are compliant to relevant standards and fit for purpose
- Supporting production staff in ensuring first vehicle build is undertaken correctly
- Investigating and resolve problems found during production
You will have the opportunity to complete on the job learning, which is complemented by a modular personal development programme. Supported by a mentor, you will work towards gaining a relevant professional qualification.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:
You will need a minimum of a 2:1 BEng (Hons) or Msc in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or Physics.
Candidates must have excellent problem-solving skills, a can-do attitude and a passion for making things happen.
Excellent Communication Skills, Accountability, Teamwork and Trust.
