Your mission?


As an EcoDesign Engineer you will be responsible for :


  • Helping drive the mandate for improving the environmental sustainability of the biggest rolling stock manufacturer outside of China.   

  • Helping to design and develop the next generation of UK rolling stock  

  • Supporting our products environmental compliance through the tender and project phase  

  • Work with other EcoDesign experts from around the world to develop vehicles in other regions. 

  • Feed the Environmental Management System  (ISO14001) with eco-design input and activities  

  • Manage & improve the environmental performance of products  

  • Contribute to Ecodesign R&D and ensure continuous improvement 



Your key responsibilities?


Tender and Projects responsibilities 

  • Ensuring compliance with all product environmental legislation on vehicle programmes in line with type approval and customer requirements 

  • Conducting full vehicle recyclability calculations (Reusability, Recyclability & Recoverability) as required  

  • Conducting full vehicle material & component life cycle assessment studies as required utilising similar approaches to vehicle recyclability 

  • Engage with stakeholders to agree and deliver environmental compliance requirements are met on the design programme  

  • Support evaluation of content as required on projects to ensure environmental compliance  

  • Interface with projects and attend key design meetings as required  

  • Manage requirement sign-off on time  

  • Capture lessons learnt from the current projects and feedback to the other Sustainability teams for future strategy development  

  • Annual review and continual improvement of processes related to environmental compliance 

  • Ensure Ecodesign expertise for the local platforms, subsystems,  tenders and projects  


R&D main missions (if assigned to R&D missions)  

  • Propose, lead and manage R&D actions in the context of product improvement and/or methodologies for Ecodesign within QCD commitment.  

  • Develop innovative methodologies to be applied as a standard in the design process of products and solutions.  


Expertise in continuous improvement of main missions  

  • Propose & Support Ecodesign managers  and CCN leader for updating and developing eco-design  referential  Propose & Support Ecodesign referent and CCN leader with continuous REX to improve the relevant methodologies   

  • Ensure training & awareness actions to non-Ecodesign people and/or to Ecodesign engineer  


Environmental Management System – ISO14001 :   

  • Propose Ecodesign yearly commitment and work plan  

  • Propose and follow ecodesign dashboard for solutions/products  

  • Contribute to EMS and its processes.

Minimum qualifications:


  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical engineering, Environmental science or other similar qualification 

  • Ecodesign Engineer / Material Engineer with environmental competencies 

  • Experience in the industry sector  

  • International Standards and Regulation knowledge for environmental issues (hazardous substances, environmental communication, energy efficiency, end-of-life…)  

  • Skills in environmental assessment (LCA, bilan carbone…) and related tools   

  • Good communication skills, pro-activity, team working
