Manufacturing is underway for our Next Generation Tram! As part of the project we have designed, commenced manufacturing and will maintain 100 Flexity low-floor Next Generation Trams for Melbourne’s tram network.
This project represents the largest investment in locally produced trams in Australia’s history. These new trams will redefine public transport, offering passengers a journey that is more comfortable, accessible, and energy-efficient.
Our Dandenong team are thrilled to announce an opportunity has opened for 2x Coach Builder Apprentice to join the team, reflecting our commitment to nurturing local talent and offering opportunities for those at the beginning of their careers. Under the close guidance of our qualified and supportive team you will learn how to undertake tasks focusing on the interior and exterior installation aspects of our production process, providing a driven individual with the chance to work for a global leader in rail manufacturing.
Have you ever thought about who creates the interiors of trains and trams? That would be a coachbuilder! This role is ideal for those who enjoy hands-on work, constructing items, and seeing their creations come together step by step. In this position, you'll be responsible for building, assembling, and installing the interiors of our NGT tram, including seats, flooring, sidewalls, and even some exciting technology.
This position will enhance your trade-based education, pave the way for future career advancements, and connect you with a diverse network of professionals across various fields. Are you eager to obtain a Certificate III in Engineering Mechanical and genuinely passionate about developing your skills in the rail industry?
Your future role:
- Provide assistance and support in the installation of train materials and equipment
- Cut, measure, trim and glue materials and components
- Assemble and fit components such as: locks, hinges, draws etc
- Install pre assembled components such as: Seats, guards and rials, doors etc
- Use a variety of tools and materials
- Collaborate with team members to achieve results and propose ideas for improvement
- Follow Alstom workplace health and safety life rules
All about you:
- Mechanical aptitude consisting of great appreciation for accurate dimensions and measurements & well developed coordination of eyes and hands
- Regard yourself as someone who is committed, able to follow instructions and can communicate and work well with others
- Committed to undertake the required learning at TAFE to work towards Certificate III in Engineering Mechanical
- Minimum age of sixteen (16) years
- C Grades in Year 10 English and Maths or equivalent
Important to note: Working hours are Monday to Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm and other times for Tafe Block learning.
