Could you be the full-time Welding Engineer / Coordinator based in Crewe we’re looking for?

 

Your future role

 

Take on a new challenge and help shape the future of welding capability at Alstom. You’ll report to the Head of Technical Services and play a vital role in overseeing onsite welding and brazing operations, ensuring compliance with internal standards and external legislation. You’ll collaborate across departments to maintain high-quality workmanship and help drive efficiency, quality, and process improvement for existing and new workstreams.

We’ll look to you to:

  • Lead the internalisation of outsourced welding activities and support business growth through new awards
  • Supervise welding processes and coordinate teams to ensure safety and quality standards are met and maintained
  • Develop and manage Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate with third parties to validate and approve welding procedures and test samples
  • Monitor and manage welder qualifications and related documentation WPS (Welding Procedure Specification), PQR (Procedure Qualification Record), WPQR (Welder Performance Qualification Record)
  • Liaise with Manufacturing, Industrial, and Quality departments to support New Product Introductions and change activities
  • Participate in internal and external audits, providing full process traceability and qualification documentation
  • Maintain systems and records at an auditable standard
  • Coordinate Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) requirements and ensure process integrity
  • Contribute to site investment discussions regarding welding equipment and facility improvements
  • Conduct inspections of welding work to ensure adherence to Alstom’s special process controls

  • Significant experience as a Welding Engineer / Coordinator in rail or heavy industry
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of welding and brazing standards (academic and hands-on)
  • HNC / HND or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Awareness of metallurgy and welding process technologies
  • Confident communicator with strong written and verbal English skills
  • CSWIP (Certification Scheme for Welding and Inspection Personnel) or NDT qualifications desirable
  • A natural problem-solver who can lead, guide, and mentor others in welding best practices
