We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer - Traffic Management System to be based in Copenhagen.

 

Denmark has set an ambitious and radical goal to upgrade the totality of its mainline network. Alstom is there to put this ambition to life and has started deploying state-of-the-art ERTMS level 2 baseline 3 signalling technology on the trackside infrastructure and train fleets. This technology will drastically improve the passenger experience by reducing the number of delays and increasing transport capacity.

 

Traffic Management System (TMS) is a key technology in the railway signalling business implementing the ERTMS level 2 standard, providing a set of advanced features for railway traffic automation and regulation. The system is currently deployed in several locations in multiple countries and is highly under development for ongoing and future projects. The Traffic Management System is built on Microsoft .NET technology, written mainly in C# language, and is responsible for the schedule, supervision, and optimization of railway traffic in controlled areas.

 

The TMS team consists of 10 dedicated and talented colleagues with railway, software development and IT design background.

 

The position is based in Copenhagen and you will work mainly on Danish and Swedish projects in collaboration with the company’s Italian site based in Bologna.

 

Your key responsibilities?

  • Apply processes, methods and tools as referenced by the program plans.
  • In collaboration with the Design Authority and under the control of the Project Engineering Manager she/he contributes to the system design and specification according to the development strategy established in the System Engineering Management Plan.
  • Review or preparation of program/project documents (e.g. training material and user manuals).
  • Participate in the material selection and procurement activities as required for the system delivery.
  • Sustain the system according to Change Requests (evolutions and anomalies).
  • Keeps informed of the evolution of technologies through the technological watch.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement (RoE: Return on Experience and processes).
  • Contribute to workload estimations for the deliverables of the scope.

For the system design you will:

  • Analyse clarify and confirm input requirements and needs.
  • Perform conceptual design by preparing system models, design studies, design rationales, design principles, real-time analysis, modelling and mock-ups for technical de-risking and optimization.
  • Partner with RAM, safety, sub-system design, software, product and V&V teams to develop design concepts and definitions.
  • Partner with the maintenance team to identify the root cause of the system in commercial operation.
  • Call, coordinate and participate in technical reviews including consultation with, human factor experts, end-users and experts according to specific needs and domains competencies relevance.

For the system specifications you will:

  • Elaborate requirements writing according to design standards and guidelines.
  • Formalize and maintain the system specification according to applicable template content.
  • Partner with RAM, safety, sub-systems design leaders, software architects, product managers and V&V managers of the program to ensure specifications completeness and acceptance.
  • Coordinate with program team members to implement design and work through design revisions.
  • Ensure traceability throughout the formal documentation, up to the input needs.
  • Ensure verifications of system specifications.
  • Put work products under configuration management.
  • On request, supports the System Application Architect for other projects and tenders.

 

Skills and Education

You need to be graduated with a bachelor's or master’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science is mandatory. You need to have at least 5 years of experience in system engineering, requirements management, system integration and RAM compliance. You must have the technical ability to work and interface across various engineering teams and the capability to define and plan system activities. Being able to formalize the design in writing, updating the existing documentation and being to write clear and testable requirements are mandatory competence to be successful in the role.

It is a requirement to be fluent in English and preferably speak a Scandinavian language.
