Legal Counsel

Job ID: 343627

Do you want to join the world leader in the railway sector? Alstom Denmark is looking for an ambitious Legal Counsel.

In Denmark, Alstom is playing a key role in the largest public infrastructure and transportation investments in Danish history, including delivering the trainsets of the future to be used throughout the Danish railway network. Alstom needs you to support the successful delivery of these projects.

About the role

As Legal Counsel you will provide legal support and expertise with regard to issues arising out of the business activity with customers, partners, and sub-suppliers. You will work closely with the teams delivering the projects, both commercially and technically.

Project and contract managers will be your primary “customers” as they will need your support in navigating issues under Danish law, as well as more commercial topics where your strategically oriented skills will be put to good use. But your guide will also be required by the Alstom management, and you will be part of the Nordics legal team who will provide great sparing and opportunities for future career development.

The position reports to the Senior Legal Counsel in Copenhagen and aims at supporting the business in all legal matters where the key responsibilities include:

  • All legal and contractual matters including claim management (primarily handled by our contract managers), dispute settlement, and legal assessments on Danish law issues
  • Contractual and legal evaluation of tender documents
  • Handling of corporate law matters
  • Promoting the Alstom Code of Ethics and adhering to the highest standards of ethical conduct

The position will be based on Copenhagen, but you will be part of the Nordic legal team. The role might entail some travelling, both within the Nordics and to other sites in Europe.

Your profile

We are looking for someone with a Danish law degree and with 4-6+ years of experience from either a law firm or similar business environment, either public or private. You are familiar with complex contracts and have an interest in the international aspects of business either through studies or work experience. Fluency in Danish and excellent English language skills are required for this position.

Concerning your experience with specific areas of law, no definite requirements apply for this role. However, it would be beneficial if you have had experience with long-term complex contracts, i.a. construction, IT, project development, or similar contract types where the legal issues interact closely with the practical. Any experience with teaching, dispute resolution, and negotiation will also be considered a plus.

On a personal level, you must be open-minded, solution-oriented, and ready to work in a highly international team environment consisting of 25+ different nationalities in Denmark alone. You must be able to provide sound risk analysis and be willing to take the initiative to provide the guidance you consider to be necessary in any given situation.
