Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your cost analysis skills and results orientation mindset expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll report to the Product Cost Manager and work alongside dedicated, hard-working, and fun teammates.

 

The Train Cost Leader plays a pivotal role in integrating the proposal of new solutions into the overall description. They actively facilitate creative brainstorming sessions, fostering an environment of openness and result-oriented thinking, to identify and validate potential cost-saving opportunities.

 

They leverage benchmarking data, Design to Cost expertise, and targets to perform detailed cost analysis of the train subsystems. Based on this analysis, they identify the main cost stakes.

 

By applying the Design to Cost tools and methodologies, the Train Cost Leader ensures that the proposed solutions align with factual cost data and figures. They also collaborate closely with the project team to adapt and prioritize these solutions, transforming them into validated savings that contribute to the overall cost reduction objectives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the whole Design to Cost studies to meet the agreed objectives
  • Insure the transformation of the listed opportunities into validated cost reduction versus base line
  • Be the “voice” of the Design to Cost in the Tender or Project team, insure and organize regular Steering Committees to report on the progresses
  • Work closely with engineering team to provide a cost perspective to Project Management

 

 

Detailed responsibilities:

  • Animate the Design to Cost by applying the DtC and train cost tools and methodologies
  • Calculate & Regularly update the “Cost by Unit in Dev” of the Train by IBS & Sub-Systems
  • Define & agree the Recurring “Cost per Unit” target of the Train by IBS & Sub-Systems while getting the adhesion of the project stakeholders
  • Base on the Benchmark, DtC expertise & targets versus the Recurring Cost to Date of the train, highlight the main cost stakes and propose Priorities to the Tender or Project stakeholders
  • Listen to the Tender or Project team needs of Business Cases, adapt, and agree the priorities with the Tender or Project core team
  • Make sure the Design to Cost deliverables are delivered according to the DFQ cycle & Roadmap agreed
  • Organize creative/brainstorming session to transform into validated savings, the Design to Cost potentials which have been identified by the DtC Analysis
  • Establish the synthesis report, follow DtC KPIs and the evolution of the total ”Cost by Unit in Dev” at Train & Sub-System level
  • Organize regular DtC Steering Committees to report it and ask the core team for go/no go Arbitrations

  • Overall understanding of DFQ  cycles and product life cycles, particularly the technical aspects of the V-Cycle methodology.
  • Proficiency in industrial processes, allowing for accurate cost analysis and optimization in alignment with technical product definitions.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in costing methodologies and functional analysis, such as Should Cost and Could Cost, to assess and analyze cost structures effectively.
  • Familiarity with Engineering Design tools like DMA, CATIA, E3S, DOORS, CMT, etc., to support technical assessments and cost calculations.
  • Good knowledge of quality and competitiveness methodologies like KAIZEN, 5S, PDCA, enabling the identification of cost-saving opportunities while ensuring quality standards.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical and cost-related information to stakeholders at various levels.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken, to facilitate communication with international teams and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated determination, resilience, and problem-solving skills to overcome technical challenges and drive cost optimization initiatives.
  • Strong networking abilities to establish connections within the industry, collaborate with experts, and gather technical insights to inform cost reduction strategies.
  • Knowledge of the railway industry, including norms, certifications, and technical requirements, to understand the specific cost drivers and challenges in the industry will be a plus. 

 

These technical competencies and skills, along with the previously mentioned attributes, enable a Train Cost Leader to navigate the complexities of the railway industry, analyze costs in alignment with technical requirements, and effectively communicate technical and cost-related information to stakeholders. By leveraging their technical expertise and combining it with their proactive, collaborative, and determined approach, the Train Cost Leader can successfully drive cost reduction efforts and deliver optimal outcomes in train projects.
