The Europe Material Planning Director is a key and integral part of Alstom Europe Region Supply chain and this role supports all the Alstom Rolling Stock, Component and Services businesses in the Europe Region. The key missions of the Alstom Europe Supply Chain are:

  • To ensure operational performance supported by strong process adoption
  • To develop the Alstom Supply Chain to support the region’s growth
  • To lead Supply Chain function and competencies
  • To develop local team empowerment and cross-regional collaboration

 

What That Means Day To Day

 

You’ll be part of Alstom managing the Material Planning and Supplier Delivery Performance to optimise material availability whilst minimizing raw material inventory. Providing operations support to sites on supply chain stabilization or mobilization of emerging sites in Material Planning and Supplier delivery performance. You’ll Contribute to the key Global Supply Chain transformation initiatives to support competitiveness & agility (including Digital Supply Chain transformation and maintaining an awareness of external developments in other industries) within their perimeter. Other aspects of the role include:

  • Defining & driving the Region Material Planning strategy, in alignment with the Global Supply Chain Strategy, on:
  • Process: Set up & deploy processes / standards
  • People: Develop Material Planners, SDPM’s (Supplier Delivery Performance Manager), PrSCL’s (Project Supply Chain Leader) and key user networks and enhance their competencies by providing training module & qualification path
  • Methods & Tools: Working with Global Supply Chain, identify best practices, develop and deploy standard operating model across the region.
  • Ensure sites are compliant to internal & external audits / certification within his perimeter –where there are findings or failings ensure robust action plans to resolve but also review any wider potential exposures across the region.
  • Continuously develop people and skills whilst optimizing headcount through the deployment of efficient processes

 

Transformation & SC design

    • Working with the sites and Global SC team to optimize the performance of GSI or current systems and ensure the successful deployment of new tools (e.g. ABC analysis / material coverage) to drive reductions in raw material whilst reducing missing parts.
    • Working with the Region Logistics Director in definimng the material planning strategy and supplier logistics specification blueprint to be employed at each stage of the project lifecycle for rolling stock.  Deploy the strategy on new projects.
    • VMI/ASW – develop and implement plans to expand the use of supplier lean logistics to minimize raw material inventory.  These plans should include the local SC Teams and Procurement and also the Region Procurement and Commodity teams to not only improve current projects but define the blue print for engagement on new projects and tenders.
    • Benchmark site material planning operations identifying best practice and improvement opportunities.  Working with sites to deliver improvement plans and utilise lean tools to simplify processes and reduce operational costs.  Support site planning and roll out on projects
    • Develop and provide standardized tools and methods for calculating resources and costs for PrSCL & material planning activities through the project lifecycle.

 

Performance management & ops support

    • Monitor consolidated region performance & facilitate regional and site performance reviews for his operational KPIs.
    • Hold regular reviews with sites on raw material levels and maintain an action plan to drive improvement. 
    • Act as first level escalation for supplier performance issues and lead appropriate recovery actions including regular supplier reviews and/or face to face visits.

 

Maturity roadmap deployment

    • Ensure handbooks, golden rules, apsys roadmap, tools procedures are deployed with digital trainings to ensure standard ways of working for all
    • Support SAP (Global Single Instance) deployment with associated core material planning and supplier delivery performance tools .
    • Provide ops support to sites / regions on supply chain stabilization or mobilization of emerging sites, new businesses.

People

    • Manage the Europe Supplier Delivery Performance Manager (SDPM) and performance of the devolved SDPM network.
    • Assess PrSCL, Material Planning & SDPM positions competencies and propose associated action plan at region level
    • Deploy robust Material Planning & SDPM culture at all levels

  • Qualifications in an engineering or business discipline with supply chain orientation
  • Good working knowledge at Senior Management level within Supply Chain
  • Fluent English skills, French appreciated

 

Experiences:

  • Material planning in a large complex manufacturing environment
  • Management of Suppliers and delivery performance
  • Management of raw material inventory

 

  • Demonstratable strategic ability & performance improvement drive
  • Ability to drive transformation at international level
  • Good background on ERP & associated Supply Chain core model
  • Availability to support sites within the region and travel as required
  • Knowledge and experience in deploying Lean tools and techniques to deliver process and performance improvements

 

 

What we offer

 

We offer a highly competitive starting salary plus benefits which is benchmarked against the country of residence where this role is performed from. For UK applicants we are offering c. £75,000, plus car/car allowance and 25 days annual leave with the opportunity to increase this to 30 days, healthcare, life assurance, an excellent company-contributed pension scheme, and a wide range of flexible benefits that you can tailor to suit your life-style.
