Your Mission
At Alstom’s Development Center in Charleroi, our team of 200+ experts is at the forefront of developing next-generation railway signalling solutions, primarily focused on ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System).
As a Validation & Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for validating and integrating ERTMS railway signalling solutions at the system level.
Key Responsibilities:
System Validation & Functional Testing
- Ensure that our signalling systems comply with European railway standards and customer requirements
- Define test strategies, identifying key validation scenarios based on functional requirements
- Design, write, and execute test cases and procedures to verify system behavior
- Conduct non-regression and delta/gap validation to ensure system consistency
System Integration & Issue Resolution
- Integrate various subsystems (NTG, DMS, MSS, etc.), ensuring seamless operation
- Analyze system architecture gaps and address interface issues
- Investigate anomalies, collaborating with design, software, and safety teams to implement corrective actions
Test Environment & Reporting
- Set up, validate, and maintain test environments, simulating real train conditions
- Provide clear, structured reporting on test execution, system performance, and required improvements
- Contribute to documentation review and audits, ensuring compliance with Alstom’s V&V methodologies
Stakeholder Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with System Engineers, Software Developers, RAMS, and Project Teams to refine system validation approaches
- Support customer investigations, troubleshooting field issues when necessary
- Propose and implement improvements to test strategies, tools, and methodologies
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Engineering degree (BAC+4/5) in Computer Science, Automation, Electronics, Robotics, or related fields
- Experience in system validation, functional testing, or integration in a safety-critical industry (rail, aerospace, automotive)
Key Skills & Technologies
- Experience in Test and Integration activities for embedded or safety systems
- Understanding of V-Cycle, Waterfall and Agile methodologies
- Programming skills (Matlab/Simulink, Python, or equivalent)
- Proficiency in requirement management and traceability tools
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a problem-solving mindset
Nice-to-Have
- Knowledge of railway signalling systems (ERTMS, CBTC is a plus)
- Experience with SysML, UML, or system modeling tools
- Familiarity with system architecture definition and interface management
- Knowledge of system safety and cybersecurity principles
Languages
- Fluency in English and French is required
