Your Mission
As a System Designer – Trackside Signaling, you will be at the core of the adaptation and specification process for Alstom’s signaling systems (Interlocking and ERTMS). Working on long-term projects, your role is to bridge the gap between customer needs and Alstom’s existing system portfolio, ensuring the solution meets safety, reliability, and performance requirements.
You’ll analyze customer requirements, identify gaps with Alstom’s generic solutions, write system specifications and operational scenarios (OCD - Operationnel Contexts Description), and contribute to configuring and testing the adapted solution.
What You’ll Do
Requirements Analysis & System Adaptation
- Analyze customer documentation (e.g. specifications, functional requirements).
- Identify and formalize gaps between client needs and Alstom’s generic solutions.
- Collaborate with the Development Center (DC) to determine how to bridge these gaps.
- Support the validation of proposed adaptations and their implementation by DC software teams.
System Specification & Architecture
- Write clear, operational OCD scenarios to describe how the system will behave, ensuring mutual understanding with the client.
- Produce system and sub-system specifications, define architecture and interface requirements.
- Draft rules for data preparation (client-specific parameterization of trackside equipment based on generic rules).
Integration & Design Testing
- Configure and load parameters into signaling equipment.
- Design and perform pre-validation tests to ensure the system behaves as expected—before formal V&V.
- Support test analysis and feedback to continuously improve the solution.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Interact with RAM, Safety, Software, and V&V teams throughout the project.
- Act as a technical contact point for internal stakeholders and customers.
- Document all system-level specifications and updates throughout the project lifecycle.
What You’ll Bring
Education & Background
- Master’s degree in Engineering (Electronics, Automation, Computer Science, Systems, etc.).
- First experience or strong interest in railway, aerospace, defense, or other regulated/safety-critical environments.
Key Skills
- Analytical mindset and ability to understand complex technical systems.
- Ability to interact with customers and interpret their needs into structured requirements.
- Knowledge of system design methodologies (UML, SysML) is a plus.
- Familiarity with requirement management and traceability tools (e.g. DOORS, Polarion).
- Basic understanding of interlocking and/or ERTMS/ETCS principles is a strong asset.
