Overview:
In the context of Tren Maya project, ALSTOM is offering high level of Maintenance Service of the Rolling Stock, Track systems (Signaling & Communication) and Maintenance facilities.
The project Train System Engineer is in charge of leading part of the technical activities related to the Rolling Stock within this Services scope especially :
• Permanent monitoring of trains performances for reaching targets and continuously improve them, in particular :
- Safety
- Availability (support to Fleet management team)
- Reliability (Service failures vs contractual target, but also Intrinsic performance of trains and components).
• Preferred interface with Alstom Design Authority teams and suppliers (technical subjects).
• Contributes to the reliability growth process (while Design Authority is leading it), then possibly leads it (in case of D.A. transfer of part or totality of the scope) – taking care about reaching contractual objectives related to the end of warranty. Especially: does the technical link between corrective operations and reliability follow-up: making sure feedback from operations is accurate, coordinating related investigations and tests, and bringing impact to operations into selection of priorities.
• Contributes to the engineering change process (while Design Authority is leading it), then possibly leads it (in case of D.A. transfer of part or totality of the scope), proposing changes, assessing impacts on Train performance and validating these changes. Part of CCB (Change Control Board), and decision of applicable configuration baselines.
• Provides guidance and technical support to:
- Troubleshooters handling corrective activities: for investigations, resolution of complex failures and reporting – counting for this on the relay by the Lead Site Engineer(s) in each workshop.
- Fleet Support Engineers: for continuously improving real-time support to the Operator, and providing accurate diagnosis of the trains.
• Regularly involved in the interface with customer about trainsets performances and technical issues: conciliation of reliability results, presentation of action plans…
• The Train System Engineering can count with the support of dedicated System Engineers reporting directly to him/her.
Organization:
Reports directly to (N+1): Project Maintenance Manager
Reports functionally to: Services Mexico Engineering Manager
Directs reports (N-1): 2 to 5 Train System Engineers
Specific responsibilities of the role (generic):
Performance Measurement / KPI’s
- Contractual performances of trainsets
- Adhesion to baseline on requirements and deliverables
- TS Dashboard : progress on open points
- On time Delivery : failures analysis, reports, specifications…
Technical missions:
Accountable for:
-
- Sustaining of train global performances, detection of deviations and proposal for solutions
- In case of redesign/ engineering change: development of requirements, coming from reference and applicable documents from Metiers, Standards, Certification, Safety, Platform and Customer, For transverse requirement allocations to the various subsystems in close collaboration with the relevant specialists,
- In case of redesign / engineering change: ensure consistency and compatibility between all the sub-systems,
- Operational analysis and Functional analysis, when required
- Applicable train configuration.
Responsible for:
- Technical interface with other Alstom units and suppliers, and customer.
- Technical reports as needed, especially of Service Impacting Failures
- In case of redesign/ engineering change: contributes to arbitration to reach the best compromise for performances impacting train operation.
During train revenue service:
Accountable for:
- Technical open issues resolution in line with project strategy, from investigation to modification implementation and problem closure,
- Providing Return of Experience to be implemented in Reference Solutions. Contribute to the RoE committee and documentation update.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience
Mandatory:
- Experience of 5+ years in Rolling Stock engineering, including warranty phase (either as design, warranty, or maintenance engineer).
- Experience of team management is appreciated

- Ability to convince, to be able to switch between problem perspective to solution perspective, to challenge and to be challenged.
- Sense for coordination and team spirit, leadership
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Readiness to travel.
- Education
Mandatory: Engineer degree or Master of engineering from University or Engineer school
- Language skills
- Fluent in English, good level of Spanish.
- Travel required
Frequent business travels to other maintenance facilities in Yucatán peninsula, and occasionally other Alstom units and suppliers´ facilities worldwide
