Position Description:
- In your role as a Vehicle Technician, you will be responsible for inspecting and maintaining Light Rail equipment. Perform repairs, replacing and testing equipment, components and systems related to Light Rail equipment under the direction of the Supervisor of Maintenance or FSE's by performing mechanical, electromechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic activities.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
- Analyzes and finds solutions to various malfunctions (mechanical, electrical, electronic, propulsion, communications, pneumatics, HVAC, etc.)
- Uses manual and power tools, as well as diagnostic equipment, such as multi-meters, digital volt meters (DVMs), scopes, meggers, highpots, ampmeters, function generators, laptops, etc.
- Reads blueprints and schematics to assess type of repairs to be performed.
- Perform equipment work order management using asset management database.
- Works both independently and as part of a team with other technicians to troubleshoot all rail car systems, replace defective parts, rewire faulty circuitry, and upload/upgrade operating software via laptop link.
- Follows all safety protocols, and ensures that work is done in compliance with FRA, Bombardier and customer’s regulations.
- Communicates with customer representatives, vendors and internal contacts.
- Complete qualification testing and commissioning of vehicles.
- Performs maintenance activities to ensure compliance to all applicable standards – FRA, OEM, etc.
- Operate Light Rail Vehicles as part of team to move rail equipment.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED
- 18 years of age or older
- Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-2 years in similar role
- Associates Degree from an accredited technical college preferred or equivalent experience
Basic Competencies:
- Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications--both general and technical)
- Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)
- Mechanical, electrical, electronic, communications, pneumatics and propulsion aptitude.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints
- Must be able to obtain Qualified Maintenance Person (QMP) designation and qualification
- Need to meet regulatory medical qualifications to qualify for Maintenance Facility Engineer and Maintenance Facility Conductor
- Driving record needs to be absent any moving convictions for alcohol or substance abuse within the previous 36 months
- Must have basic proficiency with Windows software and Microsoft Office Suite applications (i.e., Outlook)
Physical Requirements:
- Heavy work, lifting up to 40 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis
- Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on a regular basis
- Push/pull/grip/carry on a regular basis
- Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity
- Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis

- Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime and various shift work
- Complete annual training and pass safety rules examination

Environmental Conditions:
Work outside in all weather conditions in confined spaces, and on occasion at elevated heights.
