Country Managing Director for Romania

The purposes of the role is to lead and represent Alstom at country level, ensuring strong customer intimacy, operational governance, and execution support across all Product Lines (Services, Digital & Integrated Systems, Rolling Stock Projects & Development, Rolling Stock Operations & Components)

 

The successful candidate will be required to:

Act as the local front‑end Alstom leader in the country, ensuring:

-             effective deployment of the country strategy

-             early engagement with customers and authorities,

-             local coordination across Product Lines and support functions,

-             secure and compliant operations according to Alstom standards.

Support the Head of Mid-Size Markets by providing country‑level insights, risks, opportunities and execution intelligence to enable strategic steering of the country.

 

You will possess specific expertise in the following critical areas:

 

Commercial Strategy & Market Leadership:  

Represent Alstom commercially within the country.

Maintain strong customer intimacy and proactively identify early opportunities.

Provide country‑specific market insights, competitor intelligence, and regulatory trends to Head of Mid Size Markets and Product Lines.

Support routing of opportunities to the Product Line.

CountryLevel Governance:  

Act as the primary Alstom representative to authorities, public bodies, infrastructure managers and operators.

Ensure alignment with Alstom governance, ethics & compliance, internal control and financial governance at local level.

Act as first point of escalation within the country for risks, compliance concerns or commercial deviations.

CrossProduct Line Coordination/Local Execution support: 

Facilitate communication and coordination between Product Lines and local customers.

Support execution activities requiring local presence: permits, access, regulatory interfaces, local negotiations, testing & commissioning.

Anticipate and escalate local issues impacting QCD performance..

Local Services Leadership

Oversee the local Services organization (as the only full local delivery capability).

Ensure growth, customer satisfaction and safe delivery of services operations.

Financial & Performance Oversight

Monitor country‑level performance: order intake, profitability, cash, risks.

Ensure application of Delegation of Authority within the country perimeter.

Identify country‑specific risks and opportunities to support cluster decision‑making.

People, Leadership & Culture

Lead and develop the local country team.

Ensure succession planning and talent development for key roles.

Promote a culture of safety, ethics, performance and accountability.

Railway Safety, EHS & Security

Ensure adherence to RAMS, EHS and Security policies in all local operations.

Promote a strong railway safety culture and act as a local ambassador for safety compliance..

Representation & Reputation Management: 

Represent Alstom towards government bodies, industrial stakeholders and media (where applicable).

Safeguard Alstom’s image locally and ensure professional handling of sensitive situations.

Act as country lead for crisis management, in coordination with the relevant level of the organization depending on the nature of the crisis

 

Mandatory Requirements:

Strong background in commercial leadership, country management, or cluster management.

Solid experience with complex tenders, multi stakeholder environments, and strategic bids.

Proven leadership in matrix organizations interacting with multiple Product Lines.

Experience in international environments and government/stakeholder relations.

Knowledge of the national railway ecosystem.

Established relationships with relevant national authorities.
