This position will be based at the Alstom Pitkin site in Brooklyn, but there are times this position will need to travel to other sites at Staten Island, Coney Island, and Yonkers.
The successful candidate will primarily support the FMI and logistics activities for the NYCT R211 contract. This will include performing administrative tasks as needed.
Skillsets sought are those with an electro-mechanical or electronics technician background with the ability to perform basic troubleshooting as required.
This may include the use of portable test equipment including laptops, multi-meters, meggers.
Logistics and Administrative
- Intermediate user of Microsoft Office software (Excel: pivot tables, formulas, data entry. Word: Creation of professional documents and use of templates. Outlook/Teams: basic familiarity for email and internal communication)
- Work with Site Manager to create and maintain inventory records and ensure accountability of all parts and material to maintain site material records
- Demonstrate a high-level of customer focus and professionalism.
- Receives and account for inbound shipments, unpack, verify receipt against packing slip, generate goods receipt.
- Quarantine receipt management/ and notification to the responsible parties for resolution.
- Store materials in Warehouse, rotation/consolidate parts and updating bin locations daily.
- Pick, Pack, crates and ships various parts/products.
- Operates forklift equipment and inspects daily for maintenance issues.
- Performs cycle counts and participates in physical inventory when required.
- Performs data entry of Warehouse material movements.
- Quality pick and pack audits order line items
- Assure the accuracy of shipments of routine and non-routine orders.
- Interfaces frequently with customer requests for materials; retrieves product and fulfills service requests.
- Supplier communication for return of defect parts
Field Modifications
The employee will follow work procedures in combination with local directives to execute field modifications to NYCT R211 subway cars. FMIs require modification of car exterior, interior wiring, low/medium/high voltage electrical components, and various other components and structures on the vehicle.
The successful candidate must be able to:
- Identify and use basic tools, materials, and test equipment.
- Read and understand electrical schematics, diagrams, and technical/engineering drawings.
- Follow written instructions without deviation.
- Have good mechanical skills including the use of basic hand tools, drills, cut-off wheels, and calibrated torque wrenches.
- Ability to use a laptop PC and configure settings in accordance with established procedures.
- Must be able to work in a variety of conditions including work in the rail yards while exposed to the elements, work within the maintenance shops, non-climate controlled storage lockers, and standard office environment.

Useful skills:
- Basic understanding of RR shop and yard environment.
- Understanding of Domestic and International shipment requirements with Government Agencies and our Company policies.
- Thorough knowledge of warehouse operations.
- Organization of inventory and documentation.
- Familiarity with use of computers for technical work (modify connection settings, use of web browsers, PuTTY, ethernet, USB, and serial connections, interface with equipment using vendor-specific software).
- Knowledge and practice of cabling and connection methods.
- Knowledge and use of the different types of fasteners and hardware and the applicable tools used, including how to torque and how to safety wire.
- Microsoft Office applications with emphasis on Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Confidentiality, reasoning, language, multi-tasking, scheduling, follow-through, verbal communication, decision-making and problem solving. A flexible and professional manner.
General Safety & Environmental Responsibilities

- Ensure that you are fully aware of the fire precautions and evacuation procedures for any building you are working in or visiting.
- Use, handling and storage of hazardous materials in accordance with SDS and manufacturer's guidance.
- Dispose of all hazardous materials in accordance with federal, state and local ordinances.
- Ensure that all required personal protective equipment is correctly worn and maintained.
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
- Highschool or GED. Trade school or relevant training and experience (trades, military etc.) preferred
- Supply chain background considered an asset
- Experience in electronics, troubleshooting of systems and components.
- Knows how to read and understand schematics, diagrams, and engineering drawings
- Use and care of power and hand tools is required
- Motivated self-starter who is able to adapt to a dynamic workload
- Initiative to learn and support the team when needed
- cooperative attitude and interpersonal skills
- Work alongside both Alstom, suppliers and customer staff
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to perform work requiring one to:

- Twist, turn at the waist
- Use of hands and arms to apply force, lift items up to 50 lbs., push/pull heavy materials with use of pallet jacks, hand carts and hand trucks
Required Materials:
- ASTM 2413 compliant safety boots, 6 inch ankle height, with defined heel
Shift - 7:00 - 3:30, weekend and federal holiday work is uncommon There is some schedule flexibility, if needed.
OT – requirement of the job. Approval required. In some cases mandatory
Salary Range $34.00 USD - $38.00 USD per hour
