Your Future Role
At our modern office at ARTmax in Braunschweig, over 300 colleagues from 26 countries work on research and development with a focus on the digitization of rail.
As Engineering Director , you will secure that all technical and design requirements for our projects are met in terms of schedule, quality, and budget, in order to successfully commission them for our customers.
We’ll look for you to:
- Overall responsibility for the management of the Wayside Engineering department
- Management of interfaces with all relevant stakeholders, both within and outside the Engineering Wayside organization
- Active contribution to the development and implementation of the site strategy
- Driving continuous improvements in products, processes, collaboration, and ways of working
- Ensuring the timely and quality-compliant delivery of all required engineering deliverables, from tender phase through to the services phase
- Monitoring site engineering activities and providing transparent and efficient reporting to the Site Managing Director and the Global Engineering platform
- Direct leadership of the local engineering organization (currently approx. XX employees), as well as coordination and alignment with the Development Center (approx. YY colleagues) and other involved Engineering organizations, in particular in Charleroi and India
Accountable for:
- Accountability for engineering tender commitments as well as project and (where applicable) R&D engineering performance in terms of Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD)
- Management and optimization of site engineering workload and resource allocation
- Ensuring full adherence to Ethics and Compliance standards
- Guaranteeing the implementation and continuous improvement of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) practices within engineering
- Overall responsibility for people and resource management within the engineering organization
- Ensuring compliance with and continuous development of engineering processes, tools, and methods
- Monitoring and transparent communication of engineering KPIs
- Oversight of key technical decisions and, where applicable, safety-critical topics
- Monitoring and steering engineering activities within project cost optimization (to-cost) programs, where applicable
- Full responsibility for the engineering cost center, including budget planning and control
- Actively supporting, fostering, and promoting innovation initiatives
- Ensuring timely and high-quality execution of the people management cycle, including performance management, training, and development plans to achieve targeted competency levels
All About You
- Master’s degree in Engineering or a comparable qualification
- Minimum of 10 years of management experience in the railway industry, including work package management as well as risk and opportunity management
- In-depth knowledge of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies
- Strong capabilities in technical decision-making, including the application of value analysis methodologies
- Experience in defining and implementing engineering strategies and vision
- Proven expertise in engineering planning and resource coordination
- Strong team management skills, with the ability to lead, coordinate, and ensure effective collaboration across multi-site and cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated leadership skills with an entrepreneurial mindset and strong result orientation
- Experience working in multinational environments and across diverse business cultures
- International mindset and willingness to operate in a global context
- Fluent in English with excellent communication skills; proficiency in German is considered a strong asset
