Job Title EN-VR-13: Validation & Test Engineer.

Job Location: Initially in Brampton (Canada) to support ongoing Validaiton and test activities for Finch and Hurontario at Alstom factory in Brampton and also the customer facilities. Once the mission is completed, the candidate will continue supporting other projects in NAM Engineering Validaiton team.


Purpose of the Job 

  • He/she performs the Certification and Validation activities for part of the train delegated by the TVE during project execution
  • He/she writes the Train test procedures
  • He/she carries out type, validation or investigation tests, and preparing reports
  • He/she defines and implements the most appropriate testing methodology and means of testing
  • He/she develops test operating modes and analyses test results

  • Functional : TVE Train Validation Engineer

Performance Measurement

  • Timely execution of the test program
  • % of rework of test report
  • % of rework of test procedures


Accountable for: 

  • Defining the most appropriate test methodology, testing means and developing the test operating mode in accordance within the costs time and pass-fail criterion set for the test.
  • Executing tests and providing reports.

Responsible for : 

  • For Tests :
    • Preparing the tests he is responsible for:
    • Participating in the design and the development of the tools necessary for performing the tests
    • Implementing, verifying (functional), and ensuring compliance (calibration) of the measuring equipment to be ready at the time of the test.
    • Preparing the equipment for testing. Validating that the applied configuration and pre requisite testing allows the testing to proceed.
    • Respecting EHS rules notably implementing LockOut TagOut instruction.
    • Supervising and/or executing test activities, analysing test results “live” and deciding if test has to be redone or not
    • Test results data analysis, writing static and dynamic test reports
  • For validation :
    • Executing activities given by the Train Validation Engineer (TVE)
    • Updating the Validation Plan
    • Consolidating the specification of tools and test means (climatic chamber, train, ...)
    • Tools & means procurement (design, purchase, reservation,)
    • Writing Train System test procedures
    • Ensuring the timely issuing of the Validation proves (including proves of lower level systems and components) and consolidates Validation files
    • Providing structured REX to feed costing activities, and to enrich the CV metier technical repository

Job Specifications
Knowledge & Experience 

  • Train system knowledge (system analysis, railways) : at least 2 years
  • Tests organization capability, knowledge of planning tools
  • Fluent in English


Expected skills according to a functional test:

  • Functional test execution capability on some of the FBS functions of the following domains: Train network, TCMS software functions, TCMS electrical functions, Traction, Braking, Auxiliary supply and energy management, Doors, PACIS, Signalling.
  • Experience in TCMS development and/or validation.
  • Knowledge of electrical vs software design on train.


Expected skills according to physical measurement tests:

  • Physical test execution capability on some of the following domains: Aerodynamics / air passage, Dimensional & gauge, Electromagnetic Compatibility, Acoustics / noise, Railway dynamics, Weight management & allocation, Climatic comfort, Winterisation, climatic adaptation, Smoke detection / Fire protection system, Horn & headlights
  • Ability to define, create and maintain test benches
  • Software Validation
  • Required electrical habilitation level (french definitions): B2V - B2V Essai - BE Essais - BR – BC / H2V - H2V Essais - HE Essais – HC
