The Network&Telecom (N&T) Network Designer will join the N&T Team that is part of the System Design team in the Engineering department.

The N&T Network Designer will be responsible for the Design of communication system in Railway projects and tenders.

In the frame of the Railway and Metro projects managed in Italy, the communication system is a key component of the system, allowing the communication between all the trackside critical components (Signalling and Safety related communication, Auxiliary System). The communication system relies on Fiber Optic infrastructure and IP technologies, with interconnections with other technologies as required for each project (SDH, MPLS, GSM-R)

 

In particular the N&T Network Designer will be in charge of:

  • Defining Communication System Requirements (Functional, Non Functional, Interfaces)
  • Develop system documents, specifications and other technical documents. For example, definition of the Architecture, Bill of material, IP Plan, Fiber Optic requirements.
  • Ensure that the design of the backbone and/or IP Network systems technically fulfils the defined needs and enhancements (change requests).
  • Develop the detailed design of Communication System devices.
  • Configure the Communication System devices (IP switches, Firewall and other communication devices).
  • Ensure technical consistency and alignment with Project Engineering teams throughout the development.
  • Develop typical applications of the system for Generic System/Product validation purposes and manage design feedback from verification and validation team
  • Provides technical support to Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety Analysis.
  • Provides technical support to V&V (tests in lab) and T&C (tests on field). In particular, the troubleshooting of the issues detected in lab and on field.
  • Interact with other project stake-holders, both internal (Project Engineering Manager, System Engineers) both external (Customer, Supplier).
  • Contribute to Design Technical review.
  • Applying the standard Design methods & tools, configuration & change management processes in accordance to Alstom standards.

 

Qualification/Requirements

  • Degree in IT disciplines: Telecommunication Engineering, Computer or Information Science, Electronic Engineering or related field
  • Strong customer focus mindset
  • Strong analytical skills and work ethic
  • Proactivity, results orientation and flexibility to work in a dynamic environment
  • Very good communication skills (in Italian and English) including the ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical audiences

 

Preferred Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Familiar with LANs, WANs, routers, firewalls and TCP/IP
  • Cybersecurity principles
  • Software: Microsoft Office suite
  • Previous experience on network engineering is preferred
  • Managing Firewalls (Cisco) is preferred
  • Experience with common network troubleshooting tools (Wireshark, HTTPWatch, etc.) is preferred
  • Setup configuration and troubleshooting of cabled L2/L3 Networks of Hirschmann / Cisco / HP switches is preferred
