Job Title: Welding Coordinator – Boksburg (Contract Position)

At Alstom Rolling Stock South Africa (Pty) Ltd, we strive to deliver best in class locomotives to our customer for use of freight transportation on the railway corridors of South Africa.

Alstom Rolling Stock South Africa (Pty) Ltd is looking for an Welding Coordinator for our Traxx Africa project based in Boksburg. 

THE PURPOSE OF THE WELDING COORDINATOR ROLE IS TO:

To coordinate welding procedures (WPS, WPQR, mock-ups, sub-assemblies, welding control & supervision, work instruction) during manufacturing. To coordinate activities linked to special process of welding according to tasks and responsibilities defined in ISO 14731. Co-engineering with different departments. Develop repair procedures suitable to produce complying parts. Participates in risk assessment and problem solving activities (QRQC, 8D, etc.)

THE MAIN RESPONSIBILITY WILL BE:

  • Be proactive in the EHS risk situation
  • Participate in welding expert network
  • Qualify and maintain welding procedures
  • Coordinate welding activities through the 5M’s principle
  • Participate in CFT to ensure welding topics are closed on time
  • Research and development
  • Benchmark with other sites
  • Perform workstation inspection to ensure compliance
  • To use engineering tools and methods to optimize welding process
  • Supports welding specialists in problem solving and prevention
  • Reinforce the welding knowledge of operators identified during the welder review
  • Understanding and application of specifications and standards of products
  • Reinforce training (general or individual) in case of welding quality level decreasing
  • Plan welding mock-ups to ensure product quality
  • To be a proactive participant to transversal action in continuous improvement
  • Process as P-FMEA, APSYS, SWIP, 5S, Team 5 min meeting

 

The preferred candidate will meet the following requirements: 

  • Diploma/Degree in Metallurgy / Mechanical
  • Postgraduate qualification in welding - International Welding Technologist / Engineer (IWT/IWE)
  • 5 years minimum experience in welding coordination
  • Knowledge of EN/ISO standards (EN ISO 9606, EN ISO 15085, ISO 3834, ISO 9712)
  • Technical and behavioural skills / competencies
  • Knowledge of welding processes
  • Problem solving
  • Risk assessment
