Could you be the full-time Assembler Welder in Boksburg we’re looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your welding expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside dedicated and detail-oriented teammates.

You'll play a vital role in ensuring the structural integrity and quality of our railway systems. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Industrialization, and Quality), ensure compliance with welding standards, and contribute to continuous improvement processes like APSYS and 5S, and much more.

You’ll specifically take care of welding sub-assemblies, underframes, and carbody structures for railway applications, but also ensure quality checks and repairs as needed.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Welding components, sub-assemblies, frames, and structures following WPS standards and instructions.

  • Positioning, tack welding, and welding brackets on sub-assemblies and components using engineering drawings.

  • Using work orders from the workshop network to track and input activity data.

  • Selecting and adjusting welding equipment as per instruction sheets.

  • Ensuring proper positioning and gaps between components before welding.

  • Finishing and cleaning welds, checking conformity, and repairing non-conformities as required.

  • Guaranteeing the quality of your work through self-inspection and auto-control.

  • Actively participating in continuous improvement processes, including APSYS, SWIP, 5S, and daily team meetings.

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Welding qualification or Boilermaker certificate (mandatory).

  • Welding Trade Test, Plater Welder, or NDT qualifications (desirable).

  • Experience working with assemblies with or without jigs (mandatory).

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Knowledgeable of Alstom processes (desirable).

  • Ability to read welding symbols and engineering drawings.

  • Bending and guillotine cutting experience (advantageous).

  • Excellent communication skills in English.

  • Conscientiousness, thoroughness, and ability to concentrate.

  • Ability to identify welding and dimensional defects.

  • Understanding of instruction and start-up sheets.

Things you’ll enjoy Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges, and a long-term career free from boring daily routines.

  • Work with new security standards for rail signalling.

  • Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues.

  • Contribute to innovative projects.

  • Utilise our inclusive and dynamic working environment.

  • Steer your career in whatever direction you choose across functions and countries.

  • Benefit from our investment in your development, through award-winning learning.

  • Progress towards becoming a senior-level welder or other roles of interest.

  • Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognises your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (medical, provident).
