Employing 6,000 people across the UK and Ireland, we design, build and test trains at the UK’s largest end-to-end train manufacturing factory in Derby and operate major sites at Widnes, Crewe, Ilford and Plymouth, as well as 30 train services depots across the UK&I

 

 

Your future role

 

Take on a new challenge and apply your technical expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll report to James Barron (Outstations and Planning Manager), and  work alongside other members of the Services Central Engineering team. The role will be to provide technical expertise and support to the project monitoring, recording and reacting to in service failures on the new Class 730 fleet. Alstom is dedicated to ensure a successful and safe delivery of its services to its customer and to the achievement of its business plan and this role shall be pivotal in achieving this.

 

We’ll look to you for:

 

  • Ensuring work is performed in a safe and effective manner in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), Electricity at Work Regulations (1989), Railway Group Standards, and relevant ALSTOM Procedures.
  • Technical telephone support line to assist drivers and customer issues.
  • Continual monitoring of units in service utilising Fleet Monitor tracking system.
  • Provide technical support to the depot teams in the provision of fault finding expertise and assistance with train repair activities.
  • Have extensive knowledge of 3 phase, single phase and DC power systems and control systems.
  • Detailed recording of faults, fault reporting, data gathering and verbal communication.
  • Carry out fault finding and investigate intermittent faults on vehicles in service.
  • Control and monitor repeat failures of units.
  • Organise and control all aspects of failures in service.
  • Liaising with the on duty Production Manager to determine rescue plan of failed units and subsequent replacement units.
  • Attendance and assistance to be provided to failed units in service.
  • Contribute to increase the rolling stock reliability and to prevent anomalies in commercial services.
  • Provide on train fault diagnosis/rectification for units in service.
  • Investigate technical problems as instructed by the project support engineering team.
  • Partake in gathering required data downloads on critical performance systems.
  • Undertake test runs to assist in fault finding and resolution of faults, in particular the closeout of repeat failures.
  • Provide technical support in connection with special checks and experiments.
  • Liaise with the systems support engineers and specialist engineers as necessary, gathering technical information needed to enable technical problems with trains, procedures, materials or component problems to be resolved.
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with the Train Care Centre quality and safety procedures.
  • Assist the Warranty Engineer in the execution of his responsibilities.
  • Where necessary drive the companies vehicle to attend outstations or to attend failed units

  • Electrical based NVQ Level 3 in rolling stock or aircraft
  • Practical experience and a sound knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering aspects of modern Electric Multiple Units.
  • IT skills – competent user of Personal Computer, including office packages, e-mail and intranet.
  • Technical experience and strong knowledge in mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability. Enjoys variety in work practices, opinions and approaches
  • Self-Motivation. Carries out, using own initiative, activities that add value to the job
