EN-FR-00: Software Domain Leader (SWDL)

(SCDL – Software & Control, S&ADL - Schematics & Apparatus, SWDL - Software, V&TDL - Verification & Test)

Purpose of the Job

  • He/she manages Software Delivery Engineers to execute delivery activities of software products across the complete software lifecycle.
  • He/She is responsible for managing Cost, Schedule and Risks of Software deliveries.
  • He/she assess and builds the required competencies for software project management by following right tools and methodologies. 
  • He/She is responsible of bringing best practices in area of software delivery management, ensuring right estimations and commitments methods in bids and rolling out new delivery processes (e.g. agile methodologies).
  • He/She ensures planning, scheduling, budgeting, execution, and delivery of software within Software Factory.

Performance Measurement KPI’s

  • Achieve SW project QCD objectives
  • Engineering Work Package costs at completion
  • Global workload management of his/her team: Capacity = workload ± 10%
  • Workforce staffing ramp-up at project start up :(Capacity = workload) at T0 + 1 month
  • Level of application of standard process & tools :100% standard process & tools applied
  • Return of Experience (REX) management between projects: ZERO missing REX between projects 

 

Responsibilities

Accountable for :

  • To drive the delivery objectives to achieve Software Factory’s Vision and Mission.
  • Defining, developing, and sharing re-usable “design patterns” for estimations, scheduling and delivery in his/her domain
  • Deploying the standard processes and related methodologies and tools in order to ensure his/her Domain efficiency within projects management and deliveries
  • Promoting continuous improvement initiatives in his/her team
  • Managing the traceability and configuration of tools used by his/her team
  • Supporting Tenders on some costing issues
  • Supporting Projects on some project management or process issue

 

Responsible for :

  • Assigning the resources (staff, tools, …) for executing Software Delivery Engineering WP of his/her Domain
  • Managing the workload, including the sub-contracted part (technical assistance or work-package)
  • Contributing to the sub-contracting strategy in liaise with Sourcing
  • Evaluating performance and setting objectives of his/her team
  • Defining the training plan appropriate to his/her team’s needs and Alstom strategy
  • Representing Software Factory team among project core team and manages interfaces with other Project teams
  • Networking with other sites to share workload, Return on Experience and Technology topics
  • Managing his/her Domain by using regularly updated KPIs related to project performance and software product deliveries
  • Keeping other domain leaders (Software , V&T, Test means) informed of the QCD of Projects his/her team contributes to, in order to propose improvements, if necessary
  • An innovative and transformation mindset to identify improvement opportunities to optimize processes, decrease costs and increase stakeholder experience
  • Initiating and following up action plans to solve issues common across projects and/or improve results in projects
  • Managing and sharing the REX of his/her activities with Central TC&IS
  • Proposing improvements on his/her Domain process and tools defined by Central.
  • Ensure no delivery suffers due to non-availability of infrastructure for the team.
  • Identify necessary investment (CAPEX) 

 

Job Specifications

Knowledge & Experience

  • Balanced skills between general management, technical management and SW project management
  • Ability for analysis, problem-solving and efficient decision-making in complex environment
  • Ability to work across sites in a multi-cultural environment 
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead cross-functional activities and numerous/various stakeholders
  • Experience of hands-on activities of his/her Domain activities on multiple projects (at least 2 years in Railways/Aerospace/Automotive domain) like
  • Software Development
  • Software Verification & test: test specification, hardware-software integration
  • Software Validation and Assessment
  • Experience in team and project management (at least 5 years).
  • He/She should have a wide latitude in decision making and determination of objectives and approaches to critical assignments
  • Familiarity with Domain modelling tools and Product Life Cycle management tools
  • Fluent in English
  • Train system knowledge (system analysis, railways) (at least 2 years),
  • Strong hold on software project deliveries, methodologies, control & monitoring and reporting.

 

Team size

  • Direct reports: he/she manages from 5 to 20 persons
  • Managing Software Factory cross functional teams as part of Project allocation

 

Innovation

On a yearly basis :

  • Make proposals of R&D topics leading to improvements of performance of Engineering in term of Quality or Productivity
  • Identify necessary investment (CAPEX)

 

All along the year :

  • Follow market innovations in his/her domain and derive product R&D topics if useful
