EN-SA-31: Project RS on-board design Engineer

 

Purpose of the Job 

  • The Rolling Stock on-board design leader is part of the Project Engineering Team.

    He/She is accountable to deliver a system approved by the customer and consistent with the project schedule. The considered systems can be on-board network system, passenger announcement and information system, CCTV system, event recorder system, passenger counting system, train wake-up system, train to ground communication system ….

    He/She develops system architecture, defining and allocating requirements, evaluating design trade-offs, balancing technical risk, defining and assessing interfaces, keeping close coordination with verification and validation activities and with project deployment activities, in line with the system roadmap.

Missions

Performance Measurement/KPI’s 

  • Project QCD objectives (quality, cost, delivery)
  • Project specification (SyRS, SyAD, SyID, SyPD…) delivered on time, and approval status.
  • Project requirements maturity (traceability & coverage of requirements).
  • Deliveries managed with the right level of configuration.
  • Any other specific indicators defined in Engineering Management Plan.

Responsibilities 

  • He /She is accountable to reach QCD commitments, and he /she is the direct technical interface with Rolling Stock  for his/her own metier.

    His /Her main responsibilities are:

  • Provide design specification and validation monitoring solution until customer acceptance, minimizing by design the system deployment costs, lead time and risks.
  • Check that external interfaces are consistent with his/her system.
  • Supervise and participate in the system deliveries (requirements management, architecture definition, interfaces definition, detailed design, system performance, …)
  • Organize the Design Reviews.
  • Contribute to the definition of the functional validation phase of the system (PC, Bench, TrainLab, Train).
  • Ensure that all domain /metier activities follow quality processes.
  • Support PrEM to ensure full transparency of Project Engineering WP QCD performance, including physical progress.
  • Follow and participate in Risk and Savings Reviews for his / her scope.
  • In case of buy solution, he/she is the direct technical interface with the supplier and accountable of the integration of the supplier technical solution.
  • In case of Buy solution, he/she is responsible for correct cascading of customer requirements to supplier and takes relevant actions in case of mismatch.
  • In case of Buy solution, he/she follows the supplier to reach ALSTOM standard, participates to gates / deliveries with the supplier (FAI, delivery reviews) and ensures that they are passed successfully in accordance with the project schedule.

Job Specifications

Knowledge & Experience :

Educational Requirements: Graduated from Electronic or Electrical

 

Technical Knowledge / Experience

Mandatory:

Experience in on-board electronic system design, even if in other domains different to railways.

Desirable:

Experience in network & telecom solutions, and cybersecurity standards. Experience in QCD supplier management.

  • Minimum 5 years’  Experience in on-board electronic system design, even if in other domains different to railways.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in QCD / team management
