Smart Transportation is a strategic program that aims at developing Alstom new offering in mobility. This set of initiatives will mainly consist in new digital solutions but will also cover some other “smart” solutions in energy efficiency, traffic operations, or passenger services.

 

Product Manager for the Internal Developer Platform owns the vision, strategy, roadmap, governance, and evolution of the IDP, ensuring it accelerates engineering productivity, standardizes DevSecOps practices, and supports delivery excellence across programs and projects.
The role sits at the intersection of Product, Engineering, DevSecOps, Data, and Infrastructure.

  • Define and govern product strategy to ensure alignment with market needs, solution requirements, and overall competitiveness.
  • Lead the full product lifecycle, from development through the active market phase to discontinuance, ensuring coherence and continuity.
  • Support, monitor, and facilitate collaboration with key métiers relevant to managed products to achieve KPI targets.
  • Contribute to bids and tenders through requirements analysis and solution proposals, especially for products needing adaptation to bid specifications
  • Manage Product Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) by making strategic portfolio decisions and ensuring that costs related to product sustaining activities are clearly identified, proactively planned, and regularly reviewed to support effective lifecycle and portfolio management.

Key Accountabilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap
- Define and maintain the product roadmap—covering both hardware and software evolution—based on market, R&D, and solution needs, technology evolution, ensuring alignment with Solution expectations, Core Technology policy, PDO/PIO, and Industrial & Sourcing Strategy, and providing structured inputs for Program Managers to plan development activities.
- Define the product industrial scheme (manufacturing and repair) in collaboration with PIM, ensuring alignment with the overall industrial and sourcing strategy.
- Collaborate with Solution Directors and Global Demand & Supply Chain to prepare consolidated volume forecast as a core input for product strategy management
- Additional Responsibilities for Standalone Products – e.g. Track products
- Drive market analysis to define product positioning, anticipate trends, and ensure alignment with customer expectations and competitive landscape.
- Benchmark competitors on technical and economic aspects (e.g. market share, pricing, features) to define and maintain clear product positioning.
Lifecycle Roadmap
- Manage product lifecycle status from introduction to discontinuance (LCS 10 -> LCS 99).
- Develop and execute product introduction, EOL and obsolescence plans in coordination with Solution and Service.
- Manage obsolescence risks (product, test benches, tools) and support related business case decisions.
- Implement product manufacturing securitization actions, including introduction of new EMS partners and/or second-source suppliers.
Manage Performance
- Ensure the existence and accuracy of all product documentation (datasheets, manuals, training).
- Chair the Change Control Board (CCB) to manage product changes, ensuring quality, safety, and performance through impact analysis and root cause reviews.
- Maintain conformity with applicable standards and regulations (e.g., REACH, Fire & Smoke, CENELEC EN 50126/8/9, EN 50155).
- Drive product KPI improvements by engaging responsible métiers (e.g. supply chain, procurement, industrial) to ensure key performance targets are met
- Use available on-field data to track product effectiveness and make improvements when necessary.
Catalogue & Cost Management
- Drive competitiveness through cost optimization initiatives (e.g., technical sourcing, re-design, industrial scheme).
- Manage Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), ensuring sustaining costs are visible, planned, and reviewed to support lifecycle and portfolio decisions.
- Ensure all product references are listed to guarantee full product visibility within the organization.
- Validate and maintain product data (e.g. LCS, ISP, MOQ, lead time) for each reference.
- Challenge pricing inputs by reviewing BOMs, supporting cost analysis, and driving industrial and sourcing teams to secure the most competitive ISP.
- Provide required inputs and assist with global consolidation for catalogue release
Cross-functional Coordination & Support
- Ensure alignment across all relevant métiers (engineering, industrialization, sourcing, quality, supply chain, finance, and service) to meet product KPI targets.
- Support project and tender teams with comprehensive product knowledge, which should also include detailed pricing information.
- Contribute to product visibility and engagement through e.g. customer demos, pre-tendering, while also supporting business development teams.
- Support project teams during execution by providing technical guidance, answering product-related queries, and assisting with troubleshooting when needed
Product Category Review
- Prepare the complete PCR presentation twice a year, ensuring that all product aspects (strategy, lifecycle, performance, cost, obsolescence, etc.) are reviewed and updated.
- Present the PCR and ensure visibility of the contributing team to reinforce ownership and responsibility across the organization.
- Drive and monitor the completion of post-PCR actions, ensuring timely execution and alignment with decisions made during the review.

Performance Measurement

Product Strategy & Roadmap
- Roadmap completeness & update frequency: % of products with up-to-date roadmaps reviewed biannually.
Market & competitor insight quality: Evidence of market analysis and benchmark integration into roadmap decisions (qualitative review during PCR)(standalone products).
Lifecycle Roadmap
Lifecycle coverage: % of product references with defined LCS status and transition plans.
Obsolescence management: % of products with obsolescence management plan in place.
Manage Performance
Product KPI achievement: e.g. MTBF vs target, FPY (First Pass Yield) for make products, OTIF (On Time In Full) vs target, Lead time adherence (but not limited to)
Catalogue & Cost Management
- Catalogue coverage: % of product references listed and validated in the catalogue.
- Catalogue data accuracy: % of references with up-to-date LCS, ISP, PP:, MOQ, and lead time (but not limited to).
- Pricing competitiveness:% of references with ISP aligned to target cost.
- TCO visibility: % of products with documented and reviewed TCO breakdown.
Cross-functional Coordination & Support
- Bid and project support: Feedback from tender/project teams (qualitative or survey-based).
Product Category Review (PCR)
- PCR delivery: On-time submission of complete PCR package (2x/year).
- PCR Action resolution: % of PCR action items closed within agreed deadlines.

Educational Requirements

Mandatory:

Engineering Degree or equivalent: (mechanical / electrical / electronic)

Desirable:

  • Business Degree or Business vocational training
  • Chartered Status

Experience

Mandatory:

  • Significant, proven experience in System/Product Engineering or product management in digital/railway/automotive/avionics
  • Deployment and managing Product complete lifecycle roadmap(s)
  • Cross functional support within complex matrix organization
  • Cloud‑hosted software development
  • DevOps tooling, CI/CD, automation, IaC
  • Technical program or product management

    - Products and services knowledge on different market segments (Urban, Mainline, F&M, Network and Telecom)
