Purpose of the Job

  • To have competencies/skills in AT-BGL team to support/Manage General Studies activities on Bids, tenders and future projects execution

Position in the Organisation

Organisation Reporting

  • Hierarchical Reporting: (Site) Domain Leader General Studies (DL-GS)

Network & Links

  • Engineering: Engineering Planning Manager, Design team (DLE), Validation team
  • Technical network : Core Competency Network (CCN)
  • Project: Project Engineering Managers (PrEM), Train Design Engineer (TDE)
  • External Interface : Subcontractors, Suppliers


Performance Measurement/KPI’s

  • Compliance to Alstom Transport/Engineering processes & instructions
  • Continuous improvement  or Return on Experience (RoE) management from previous projects = zero missing RoE


Accountable for :

Is accountable for the Delivery of General Studies Engineering outputs, in compliance with the Engineering QCD commitments


  • Good understanding of vehicle architecture and systems
  • Deploys and applies on project general studies discipline procedures
  • Ensuring understanding and application of the TD rules, processes and tools (single-domain)


Responsible for :  

  • Defining train architecture keeping in view various design and manufacturing constraints of train
  • Managing train weight by right allocation of weights to subsystems to meet axle weight targets
  • Producing Weight Balance sheet and fill weight attributes in Digital Mock-Up
  • Choose right method and provide maximum & vehicle design gauge and producing kinematic envelope
  • Present the design details to customer and seek approval
  • Support to validation of gauge and weight activities
  • Support to work packages on areas of weight, layout and gauge


Job Specifications

Knowledge & Experience

  • Mechanical Engineering applied to Railway products (or Automotive domain or Aerospace domain) with 8+ years of experience
  • Good Communications and interpersonal skills
  • Conflict Management and multitasking
  • Customer Focus / Management skills
  • Structured and organised with Hand-on approach
  • English operational in read/writing and technical meetings.
