Job Title

  • MLE - Mechanical Lead Engineer

Purpose of the Job

  • Managing one Mechanical Domain resources, activities and deliverables on a project in compliance with QCD commitments.
  • Applying applicable Train Design Domain instructions, processes & tools.

Position in the Organisation

  • Hierarchical Reporting: (Site) Mechanical Domain Leader (MDL)
  • Functional Reporting: Train Design Engineer (TDE)

Missions

Responsibilities

Accountable for :

  • Performing project Mechanical Domain activities in compliance with QCD commitments.
  • Planning and piloting Mechanical Domain activities and related deliverables on project taking into account applicable instructions/processes and other specific Customer (internal or external) requirements.
  • Ensuring Mechanical Domain deliverables quality and their acceptance by the Customer (internal or external) within committed limits.
  • Reporting on Mechanical Domain activities progress and alerting relevant N+1 in case of issue potentially impacting achievement of QCD commitments.
  • Defining requirements and mechanical interfaces to equipment (Allocated volume, weight, location, 3PL, etc.).
  • Writing system specifications derived from train level requirements; validating MOP through test specifications and reports.
  • Capable of assessing risks and highlighting/ mitigating at right levels.
  • Monitoring assigned Mechanical Sub-Systems deliveries conformity with project needs.
  • Checking availability on time of work-package input data and escalate if necessary.
  • Checking supplier's and sub-contractor's Design Quality
  • Coordinate with internal / external customer/ supplier (local or global) to validate inputs to ensure QCD targets on first time.

 

Responsible for :  

  • Applying TD rules, processes and tools (single-domain) and ensuring Mechanical Domain deliverables quality and their acceptance by the Customer (internal or external) within committed limits
  • Managing production of deliverables in accordance with planning targets on Mechanical Domain assigned work-packages.
  • Designing products taking into account project requirements (performances, manufacturability, serviceability, testability, etc.).
  • Preparing and documenting Mechanical Domain Design Reviews according to project schedule and following-up the main open actions.
  • Checking respect of Allocated volumes/interfaces (no-clashes) on internal design.
  • Resolving Project Mechanical issues and  following challenging actions (single-domain)
  • Defining mitigation plans covering a risk identified on Project Mechanical Domain scope.
  • Reporting on Mechanical Domain activities progress, anticipating issues (capacity, skills, rule applicability, etc.) and alerting if needed.
  • Respecting and/or allocating requirements and mechanical interfaces to Sub-Systems/equipments  (Allocated volume, weight, location, 3PL, etc.)
  • Coordinating Mechanical Domain contributors on Project.
  • Analysing and consolidating change request impacts on Mechanical Domain scope
  • Producing Mechanical Domain deliverables (RSAD L2, Validation Plan, etc.)
  • Validating relevant Mechanical Domain deliverables and securing planning.
  • Verifying design via mock-ups or simulations.

 

Contributor for :

  • Defining mitigation plans covering a risk identified on Project Mechanical (multi-domains)
  • Perform quotation of engineering work-package , upon request
  • Defining Project Mechanical Decomposition (PBS)
  • Defining Mechanical Project/Product Preferred Part List (3PL) delivery.
  • Supporting Sourcing, Industrialization and Manufacturing teams during Production ramp-up.
  • Collaborating with MDL for continuous improvement of the Domain (including RoE)
  • Defining Mechanical Domain architecture taking into account weight, gauge, installation strategy, acoustics, eco design, ergonomics, aerodynamics, aeraulics… etc.
  • Establishing Certification & Validation Plans for TD scope.

 

Job Specifications

Knowledge & Experience

  • Mechanical Engineering preferably applied to Railway products with 6 to 8 years of experience.
  • Good Communications and interpersonal skills including with third parties (customer).
  • Time management and reporting skill.
  • Effort estimation and planning skills
  • Sense of urgency / priority.
  • Customer & Product Focus.
  • Risk management
  • Strong technical background with knowledge of RS commodities
  • Structured and organised with Hands-on approach.
  • English operational in read/writing and technical meetings.
  • Knowledge of Foreign language (ex. French, German.. etc) shall be favourable.

Team size

  • Direct functional reporting : 2 to 8 persons
  • Depending on the project size, the scope of accountability represents a workload of up to 20 full time equivalents (with subcontracting)
