ACCOUNTABILITIES & AUTHORITIES

Key accountabilities:

  • Support/leads the Projects/Programs Engineering team to ensure that the correct technical governance is being applied (e.g. suitable design and expert input, defining and enforcing architecture/métier standards, methodologies, processes, tools and solution frameworks against which programs and projects can deliver) – focusing inwardly on the internal consistency; and outwardly on its coherence with other solutions/métiers and standards.
  • Review the technical input and subject matter expertise of the proposed design, covering areas such as the definition of requirements compliance, functional fit, technological capability, cost, and delivery capability
  • Assess the feasibility of the proposed solution (performance, delivery model and organizational fit), and propose mitigation plans
  • Engages with projects/programs to ensure technical risks are being identified and managed
  • Chair/Support Design Reviews for subject matter in his/her field of critical developments and projects
  • Ensure the implementation of generic products and systems by multi-project synergies in order to optimize cost of technical solutions.
  • Propose/Support technical innovation and roadmap development as required in answer to the business strategy of his/her field, with a constant preoccupation to make optimization on the company portfolio and internal processes.
  • Maintain view of industry and standards, and domain technical watch to guide orientation with market trends.
  • Provide pre-tendering support regarding business opportunities where expected solution does not exist in current portfolio.
  • To lead/assist tenders to ensure consistency between the tender development needs and the programs development roadmap  
  • Owns and develops the processes and procedures through which the regional services organizations undertake engineering activities.
  • Drives best practice in the regional services organizations, ensuring standard solutions and architectures are developed, which maximize reuse and minimize rework.
  • Ensure a harmonized approach to resolving obsolescence and safety issues, ensuring issues are identified on all affected fleets and common resolutions are applied.
  • Identify opportunities to maximize the use of best cost engineering resource in delivering both global and regional engineering initiatives.
  • Set the competence requirements for global and regional services activities and ensure that competence is assessed.
  • Identify opportunities for fleet upgrades, modifications and improvements, defining standard solutions and architectures and then providing the technical governance and leadership to realize these opportunities in the regional services organizations.
  • Chair/support user groups and global community calls to identify multi-project synergies, resolve issues and spread best practice
  • To provide engineering leadership and governance for services projects, where the necessary competence and experience is not available.

 

Performance measurements:

OTD, QCD, PMC, Project reliability / availability / cost targets

 MAIN REQUIRED COMPETENCES

Educational Requirements :

University degree in Railway Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, Automation Engineering or Electrical and Mechanical Engineering

Experience

Mandatory:

  • 1-5 years of experience in Railways system/Application engineering for Engineer
  • 6-10 years of experience in Railways system/Application engineering for Senior Engineer
  • 10+ years of experience in Railways system/Application engineering for Lead Engineer
  • Knowledge of rolling stock equipment
  • Graduated from a STEM university-type course
  • Member of an appropriate Engineering Institution

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of rolling stock maintenance
  • Certification in System Engineering
  • Experience
  • Working knowledge of safety management systems and safety risk assessment
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office, SAP, BI/BO
