Context

As part of the development of innovative traction systems using energy storage systems, the Alstom Bangalore site is strengthening its ESS department. We work across disciplines to transform improved hardware and software elements into a single, integrated design.

The Role

As part of our ESS Engineering group, his/her mission is to assure the introduction of new technology for development of green energy storage systems for railway traction and auxiliary applications. The ESS Validation Engineer is responsible to lead the certification and validation activities for energy storage systems during project execution. As such, he/she will be ensuring QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) management on certification and validation activities and contribute to continous improvement of test and validation tools and methods.

He/She is responsible for the documentation of solutions, the follow-up of their application in the project and the growth of reliability.

 

Main Responsibilities

For development of Traction and Auxiliary energy storage systems, he/she utilises skills to perform certification and validation activities for development of next generation traction and auxiliary battery systems. Responsibilities include : -

  • Realizing with the ESS architecture and design team, the ESS Validation Plan and the ESS Validation Management Plan for the product and/or project at tender level.
  • Implementing the standard process and related methodologies and tools in order to ensure Certification and Validation efficiency.
  • Test Execution and Test Report ensuring the timely issue of the Validation proofs (including proofs of Parts Validation and Test Bench achievement) and consolidating Validation files.
  • Providing structured REX to feed costing activities, and to enrich the technical repository.
  • Promoting continuous improvement initiatives. Reviewing Parts Validation Plan relevant to test at ESS level or Train level and accepting (to be included in ESS Validation Plan) or rejecting considering other possibilities.
  • Managing the ESS level validation activities, creating and maintaining the Validation Plan. Managing the Certification and Validation (CV) project team.
  • Review and approvals of ESS Test Procedures / reports.
  • Managing the validation schedule, optimizing the validation sequence in relationship with the ESS design and configuration maturity and test means availability.
  • Through activities, contribute to standardization by reusing existing solutions or by implementing reusable solutions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement (RoE: Return on Experience etc). Remain informed of the evolution of technologies and standards through techno watch.
  • Ensures reporting of its activities to the ESS Architect.
  • On request, participate in technical meetings with the customer in support of the development manager.
  • Define the validation strategy with the validation team and investigate technical facts during the warranty and reliability growth phase of the product, propose technical solutions and manage problem solving.
  • Ensure the capitalization of feedback on reference solutions or document repositories of the business.

 

Qualification, Knowledge & Experience

  • BTech/ MTech degree in electrical/ electronic / automotive or chemistry applied to batteries.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in certification and validation of traction and auxiliary batteries for railways industry or industry with similar requirements of robustness, functional safety (aerospace, automotive, military).
  • A good understanding of advanced chemistry energy storage solutions, applicable Standards and Regulations is a must.
  • Engineering skills related to requirement management, work package management, configuration and change management.
  • Experienced and capable of organising test and validation activities with support of internal and external stakeholders, knowledge of planning tools.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) required for internal and external communications.
