Context

As part of the development of innovative traction systems using energy storage systems, the Alstom Bangalore site is strengthening its ESS department. We work across disciplines to transform improved hardware and software elements into a single, integrated design.

The Role

ESS Project Engineering Manager represents ESS Engineering group among project core team and his/her mission is to manage engineering core team to reach its QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) commitment. He applies and promotes the Team, Trust & Action values of the company assuring to meet KPIs. Project Engineering Manager manages the ESS projects autonomously or supports the Sub-System Manager. As such, he/she technically manages the project/projects for development of ESS sub-systems or components made by internal and external suppliers.

 

Main Responsibilities

For development of Traction and Auxiliary energy storage systems, he/she is responsible for engineering QCD management for design, development and performance of next generation traction and auxiliary battery systems. Accountability and responsibility include :-

  • Accountable for the technical decisions taken with his/her team.
  • Responsible for managing Project (or R&D or Sustaining) Engineering activities by delivering Engineering Work Package in compliance with the Engineering QCD commitment.
  • Representing Engineering among project core team and manages interfaces with PrXMs and other PrEMs of Leading/Participating Units.
  • Representing Alstom Project Engineering in front of customer to provide global view of design progress, issues, risks. For detailed technical discussions, PrEM must delegate to the right person (TSE, Expert…) whom will provide him/her with Minutes of Meeting.
  • Representing Alstom Project Engineering in front of partners in case of consortium: PrEM ensures that the inputs/outputs and design reviews are in-time, with the right quality level.
  • Providing to his management regular reporting and performance analysis (PrEM cockpit).
  • Defining and applying the Engineering Management Plan.
  • Managing functionally the project engineering core team (ESS Engineers, RAMS, CV) and their commitment for the project.
  • Providing to workload manager regular updates on project engineering firm workload including forecasted internal and external change orders, based on inputs from Métiers team. Challenges and validates inputs.
  • Escalating to Métiers/ SED staffing issues (under-staffing, competences, subcontracting problems, under performance…).
  • Responsible for Engineering QCD Management owning engineering work package and is responsible for it.
  • Following and updates baseline on a regular basis, validates Variation Orders demands (external or internal) requested by project, quotes them with involvement from metiers, and updates engineering work package accordingly, ensuring proper traceability.
  • Approving, as a member of CCB, applicable modifications on product, and updates QCD accordingly. TSE remains responsible for applicable configuration.
  • Managing the Global Scheduling Convergence, with support of Engineering Planning Manager.
  • Managing the Operational Quality in order to improve Project execution, with support of Engineering Quality Manager.
  • Plans necessary Design Reviews, checks mandatory attendees are invited, makes sure they are done on-time and issues are opened in PSLI.
  • Animates Engineering issues of Project Single List of Issues and is responsible for having C1/C2 issues closed in time.
  • Is responsible for engineering points within DFQ Gate Review checklists, provides to PM/SSM/PrEM Manager his prognostic and puts in place necessary actions to mitigate a No Go risk.
  • Responsible for managing Engineering risks mitigation and savings action plans.
  • Provides to PM/SSM all inputs to update RAMP/SAMP and updates Engineering workpackage accordingly.
  • Managing, communicating and escalating on critical paths linked to Engineering: To Métiers Managers / PrEM Manager / Site Engineering Director for internal Engineering issues, and, To PM/SSM when other entities are implicated.
  • On request, participate in technical meetings with the customer in support of the development manager.
  • Ensure the capitalization of feedback on reference solutions or document repositories of the business.

 

Qualification, Knowledge & Experience

  • BTech/ MTech degree in electrical/ power electronic / automotive engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in product development, project management positions with ability for problem-solving and efficient decision-making in complex environment. Training/ certification is a plus.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead cross-functional activities and multiple stakeholders in multi-cultural environment. Leadership and ability to drive teams on technical orientation to reach QCD targets.
  • Strong knowledge of technical project management and industrial development cycles (V-cycle, quality reviews, ...)
  • Significant experience in conducting technical projects with ability to drive operational excellence.
  • Knowledge of constraints or standards for railway or high-power applications. Project experience in the advance chemistry railway/automobile traction and auxiliary batteries would be appreciated.
  • Understanding of the needs of customers, responsiveness, autonomy, teamwork and ability to convince will all be qualities necessary for success on the job.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) required for internal and external communications.
