Context

As part of the development of innovative traction systems using energy storage systems, the Alstom Bangalore site is strengthening its ESS department. We work across disciplines to transform improved hardware and software elements into a single, integrated design.

Join us, and you will help us innovate new battery technologies that continually outperform the previous iterations.

By collaborating with other product development groups across Alstom, you will craft creative energy storage solutions that deliver more energy in smaller spaces than ever before.

As a team, you will push the industry boundaries of what ESS can do and improve the product experience for our customers across the world!

In this role, you will be developing world-class green energy storage solutions that lead the industry in quality and performance, drive customer results, and make a difference in people's lives. Do you have a passion for invention and self-challenge ?

The Role

As part of our ESS Engineering group, his/her mission is to define the power schemes and to design electrical components for energy storage systems for railway traction and auxiliary applications.

The Power Design Engineer shall carry out his mission in a tender, project, product or R&D team, and, is working with other technical domains (mechanical design, control-command, validation, RAMS), and with Sourcing and Quality department. The Power Design Engineer has close links with power design engineers in other domains to use and deploy the same development methods, ensure synergies and coordination to promote standardisation and maximise carry-over from standard products. He/She must follow the state of the art, define and structure the validation steps of new ESS components.

He/She is responsible for the documentation of solutions, the follow-up of their application in the project and the growth of reliability.

Main Responsibilities

For development of Traction and Auxiliary energy storage systems, he/she utilises skills to specify the electrical components of energy storage systems and define the interfaces of electrical components within system and with connected systems. Responsibilities include : -

  • Calculate electrical or thermal constraints related to components of power scheme using design rules and standards tools in line with Alstom expectations and rules to fulfil all customer and normative requirements.
  • Define specifications for the electrical components of ESS and performs selection of components e.g. Power electronic components (IGBT, diodes, …), Power control devices (Switch, isolator, circuit breaker contactor, …..), Drives (motors, actuators, …….), Passive/ active components (transformers, inductors, capacitors, resistors, busbars, …), Interface components with control electronics (sensors, gate drives, relays, …).
  • Specifie the power requirements to be exported to the control/command engineer (flux law, torque law, PWM strategy, protection thresholds, …).
  • Write corresponding design reports and contribute to writing knowledge guidelines.
  • Participate in the definition of validation tests of the power scheme with the validation engineer.
  • Contribute to define rules and standard design deliverables and use standard design deliverables for Power scheme.
