The Alstom Ballarat team are incredibly excited about our newly created vacancy, that aligns deeply with our ethos of supporting local talent and providing opportunities for those eager at the start of their career. The role of a school-based apprentice electrician is a rare chance for a motivated individual to obtain part time employment with a global leader that supplements their trade-based learning and creates a pathway for future career opportunities. We are seeking interest from school-based individuals currently undertaking a relevant electrical trade qualification and a genuine desire to develop their skills in the rail industry.

 

Under the close guidance of a qualified and supportive team (supervisors, leading hands electricians and electrical fitters), you will learn how to undertake tasks within the electrical field on the assembly of the train for the X’Trapolis 2.0 project.

 

Based on your trade school curriculum, some of these tasks will include:

  • Reading and applying technical documentation supplied
  • Using standard work procedures, hand & power tools
  • Installing and testing electrical wiring and circuits and components
  • Performing electronic measurement & testing
  • Terminating and connecting electrical wiring
  • Fault finding and rectifying basic electrical circuits
  • Removing and replacing defective parts and components.
  • Working as part of a team to ensure results and identify improvements ideas

 

To be considered, you ideally will be able to tick the following boxes

  • Maths pass grade, STEM subjects – Physics or Chemistry pass grade highly regarded
  • Certificate II in an Engineering or Technology field would be highly regarded
  • Regard yourself as someone who is committed, able to follow instructions, a great problem solver and can communicate and work well with others
  • Undertaking or will undertake block training at TAFE

 

You will be required to be based at the Ballarat site 2 days per week, Monday and Friday 7:00am – 4:30pm (2 days, totally 18 hours/week).
