Purpose of the Job
- Assist the “Power Supply Design Leader” in his role of performing the basic and detailed power supply engineering activities of a traction project (metro and tramway),
- Responsible for the Automation basic and detailed design,
- Produce the necessary design and engineering workload and deliver with excellence at the right time and the right quality,
- Participate to the REX (Return of Experience) of the project,
- Provide support to one or several Bids in line with policies, standards, regulation and customer specifications.

The “Automation Design Engineer” will liaise with:
- Engineering: Power supply engineering team + other engineering teams,
- Project: Project management team,
- Site: Construction + tests and commissioning teams,
- Bid management team,
- External interface: Suppliers + Subcontractors + Customer + Partners,
Performance Measurement/KPI’s
The “Automation Design Engineer” work will be evaluated according to the following points:
- On-time delivering: 100%,
- Respect of Design for Quality milestones: 100% Go On Time, in accordance with the standards or rules of his Metier,
- Respect of performances of the system provided: 100%.
- The quality of the works performed in the frame of Central function
Responsibilities
- Perform the Automation basic engineering activities of a project
- Analyze customer’s specifications / requirements and design components of automation & SCADA System accordingly,
- Define all architectures for automation and control-command systems,
- Provide hardware and software functional specifications
- Provide all technical and interfaces specifications for automation and control-command systems,
- Prepare points lists of all data transferred in SCADA system.
- Perform the Automation detailed engineering activities of a project:
- Ensure the technical monitoring of the subcontractor for automation programs and cubicles,
- Provide the connection diagrams,
- Develop and document SCADA and PLC programs,
- Design and configure network and communication for RTUs, IEDs, HMIs, PLC’s and other SCADA system equipment,
- Assign and program data addressing and routing information,
- Develop Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens,
- Participate to the factory acceptance tests of the automation and control-command systems.
- Assist the “Power Supply Design Leader” about all automation interfaces and risks to be managed,
- Provide technical support to Construction and Test and Commissioning teams with regards to automation design issues,
- Participate (if requested) to the As-built documentation drawings modifications.
Knowledge & Experience
- Graduated from engineering school in SCADA and Automation systems,
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in automation systems as well as process control programming languages such as PLC,
- Test and commissioning experience appreciated,
- Professional experience in railway transportation shall be considered as an asset,
- Good knowledge of automation systems,
- PLC system design, coding, testing and commissioning
- SCADA System Design, configuration and Commissioning
- Knowledge of Network and communication protocols (i.e DNP, Modbus, Goose Messaging, IEC 61850, TCP/IP),
- Very good writing and editorial skills,
- Good co-ordination and communication skills,
- Autonomy, motivated, initiative and, and interested in technical topics,
- Problem solving mindset with attention to detail and good analytical skills,
- Fluent English, second language appreciated.
