Purpose of the Job

Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) maintenance technicians and subcontractors (as required/necessary) for the Preventive Maintenance, Corrective Maintenance, emergency field modifications and Warranty activities on the Finch West LRT contract. Make timely and responsible decisions regarding operational and personnel matters including allocation of resources, customer service issues, performance appraisals, employee development, and corrective actions. Monitoring and assigning Preventive Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance activities. Must perform the job with the understanding of ethical and integrity responsibilities.  Ensuring Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) protocols/procedures are implemented and adhered to. Upholding respect and dignity policies, workplace violence policies, and promoting a conducive workplace environment free of harassment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct job briefings, end-of-shift briefings, Safety Meetings and activities, ensuring that safety rules, procedures and policies are adhered to through efficiency testing and safety tracking document.
  • Correct and document safety incidents, safety hazards/concerns, investigates for corrective actions to the various departments, involving Engineering and EHS Coordinator in the prescribed timelines.
  • Support, communicate and deliver to key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Leads to ensure all direct reports have an understanding of the business objectives, as well as the role they are all accountable for.
  • Communicate and interact regularly with management to ensure repair and train servicing is meeting the expectations of customers.
  • Supports all expenditure reduction initiatives.
  • Maintain communication and foster positive working relationships within the team.
  • Ensures all relevant information is captured in a timely fashion in MAXIMO/GSI (SAP-based).
  • Audits and signs off on Work Orders (WOs). Responsible for ensuring shift work is all accounted for in MAXIMO/GSI.
  • Captures all relevant issues, metrics and KPI values for Shift Report. Must produce Shift Report at the end of each shift.
  • Communicate and interact regularly with local/external Alstom counterparts at other/similar transit systems.
  • Solves problems by analyzing using knowledge, experience, and impartial judgement.
  • Reviews and applies Alstom directives / protocols and Human Resource input to resolve any potential infractions.
  • Work directly with employees in the shop & yard environments to establish self-managed work teams.
  • Provides guidance and support to employees to bring about the vision of an empowered and engaged workforce.
  • Enforce EHS rules, regulations and policies.
  • Promote a safe and harmonious work environment free of harassment and violence.
  • Ensure employee safety / job-essential training is performed to Alstom standards, and importantly the training remains current and does not elapse
  • Conduct weekly Safety Observations, facility inspections, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) audits to ensure compliance.

 

Qualifications & Functional Knowledge

  • 3+ years in a Supervisory role or job-related equivalency.
  • Supervisory experience in a maintenance, industrial/technical environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and solve complex technical issues that required the use of project management techniques and statistics. 
  • Must have an excellent understanding of warranty repairs, maintenance, parts management, and best practices in continuous improvement processes.
  • Demonstrated past success in leadership of people and management of physical assets.
  • Ability to understand and solve complex technical problems and the ability to negotiate human relations issues involving direct reports and other employees and vendors. Ability to manage multiple priorities and demands, while providing consistent and accurate feedback to direct reports.Knowledgeable on Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) workplace regulations.
  • Must be proficient in computer applications - a background utilizing vehicle maintenance programs would be an asset.
  • Technical experience/knowledge working in an industrial environment performing vehicle warranty maintenance, corrective and preventative maintenance, modifications, and commissioning/testing activities is recommended.
  • Knowledgeable in MAXIMO/GSI system and modification process, coupled with supply chain management experience.
