Based in Toronto, Ontario, you will be the first-line supervisor and report directly to the Manager of Train Operations.  You will ensure that train movements are operated safely, on time, efficiently and economically over the entire Metrolinx system, consistent with Alstom’s mission to provide our customers with an excellent level of Customer Service. You will interact closely with the other Managers and Supervisors in operations as well as maintenance.
 
In your role, you will:

  • Ensure that all transportation and customer service activities are performed safely and promptly while providing a courteous service to clients in accordance with corporate policies, practices, government regulations, Canadian Rail Operating Rules and special instructions;
  • Coordinate, direct and supervise Train Operators through the application of a high level of technical and managerial skills related to customer service delivery and the safe operation of trains and the provision of quality service in accordance with the advertised train schedules;
  • Coordinate train handling, adherence to schedules, operating rules, speed restrictions and regulatory requirements, and initiating remedial action to eliminate undesirable operation practices;
  • Assess train reports for on-time performance and regularly interface with Metrolinx as well as host railway operating officers to ensure coordination and daily performance of train operations and to immediately respond and correct deviations to the operating plan;
  • Provide on-the-job training and coaching for Train Operators and assists the Training Supervisor in the development of follow-up training as required;
  • Investigate customer complaints, accidents, injuries, rule violations and other staff failures recommending corrective action to prevent a reoccurrence with a full report to the Manager of Train Operations;
  • Respond to all accidents, derailments or disruptions assuming a senior role; coordinating all Alstom equipment maintenance activities with the host railway to minimize adverse effects to passengers while ensuring an expeditious return to normal operations;
  • Be the liaison with Transportation Safety Board and Transport Canada inspectors regarding train operations and accident/incident investigations;
  • Ensure that Train Operators are fully knowledgeable about the equipment in order to affect repairs online to minimize delays to trains and their passengers in keeping with our goal of excellent customer service;
  • Provide input in the development of a Safety Management System dealing with the regulatory regime.

 
As our ideal candidate:

  • You hold a Secondary School diploma;
  • You possess a Locomotive Engineer;
  • You possess a minimum of five (5) years of experience working in the rail industry, preferably as a Locomotive Engineer or Conductor, experience as a Railway Supervisor, Trainmaster or Superintendent, or experience in crew management will also be considered;
  • Your Rules Qualification and Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) certification will be considered as an asset;       
  • Your English communication skills are excellent.
