Alstom deliver major railway projects across the globe and have recently been vital in the delivery of Crossrail, and HS2 (enabling projects) in the UK. In addition, we have been awarded by Network Rail, two significant major signalling frameworks and you will be part of the team that will be delivering Contracts awarded under those Frameworks.

 

About The Role: 

 

This role is based at our Crewe site.

 

Our Rail Engineering/Fitter Apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to learn about supporting operational activities around overhaul and maintenance of bogies, wheelsets, traction motors, pantographs, HVAC units and Construction of new build bogies for HS2. You will work as part of multifunctional team, supporting operational activities.

 

You will also be involved in: 

 

  • The overhaul and maintenance of bogies, wheelsets, traction motors, pantographs and HVAC unit
  • The construction of the new build bogies for HS2
  • Participate in company initiatives, in particular to be engaged in Continuous Improvement activity targeted at all aspects of Alstom performance.
  • Participate in STEM & other Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives
  • To comply with Alstom Procedures and the Code of Ethics
  • Carry out general depot duties
  • Provide basic maintenance competency
  • Carry out depot cleaning/general housekeeping
  • Carry out Testing activities in accordance with pre-written test procedures
  • Assist in component change outs 

 

As part of the apprenticeship programme, you will be working towards completing a Level 3 Diploma in Rail Engineering Knowledge, and the Level 3 Competency in Rail Engineering. Over the  programme, you will be combining the academic studies with real life work based experience across our organisation which will give you the opportunity to build and gather evidence of your competence whilst working towards a formal qualification.

This  apprenticeship programme is the start of your progression into technical expert roles. We are looking for innovative and ambitious talent to become our future leaders and senior managers- upon completion of the apprenticeship programme, there will be the opportunity to step up into these roles.

 

On completion of the apprenticeship you will be expected to undertake various processes on the repair and overhaul of traction and rolling stock as a manufacturing team member

 

Entry Requirements:

 

  • GCSE or equivalent in 5 subjects including Maths, English and Science at Grades 5-9

 

Candidates will also need to have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, as well as having strong attention to detail and being able to work in a team. Candidate should also be logical and use their initiative.
