Purpose of the Job:

  • TC Technical director is responsible for overall management and direction/strategy of all technical functions associated with signaling platform / product / applications (from embedded to user-level applications) and operating systems (Linux, Windows, RTOS)
  • Establish technical authority in TC by leading the decision making at global level
  • Setup technical expert pool for Linux – Core (Kernel), Applications , Embedded and for Microsoft – Microservices and architecture. Guide and mentor the principal engineers, who are technical authorities in their respective areas of D&IS Core Technology. Ensure the quality of deliveries of platform / products from TC
  • Define and Drive roadmap and policies which will enable in improving the overall competitiveness of signaling products and solutions
  • As new technologies emerge, TC Technical Director coordinates all of the impacted activities that are effected by that new technology

 

Main Responsibilities:

Key accountabilities

  • Develops and implements the technical charter which defines the expert technical pool mission statement, goals, directions and strategies for maintaining high stakeholder (internal and external) service levels as well as providing for future expansion.
  • Directs the activities of technical pool team including the principal engineer and experts to maintain technical leadership to stay ahead of the curve 
  • Ensures implementation of defined core framework and policies of core technology at TC level
  • Maintains a close working relationship with all department managers and Technical experts of all programs.
  • Guide and Mentor the Principal Engineers, who act as technical authority in Technology centers of D&IS Core Technology (Example : For Embedded Systems, OS specific like Linux , Windows)
    • Deploy methodology streamlining critical design reviews / managing critical issues
  • Drive roadmap and policies which enable in improving the overall competitiveness of signaling products and solutions
  • Drive technology programs & EcoSystem evolution (Embracing technologies, validate key competencies/talents..) and optimize strategies in collaboration with Core tech – Technology director
  • Collaborate with the D&IS & support to leverage the trends in external world [ Example : For Embedded System programs and the dependent programs]
  • Interface with WCE, development teams, software architects and deployment engineers ensuring good product deliveries
  • Give direction to Principal engineers to stay ahead of the curve to discover the knowns and the unknowns of programs in their road maps and alerts issues before they can occur.
  • Develops and coordinates in-house technical training seminars to improve overall employee awareness, response time, and ability to look into the future software system requirements
  • Establishes and maintains a resource library containing software, system documentation, relevant periodicals, records and a report management system.
  • Markets the technical pool expertise through a quarterly newsletter and/or the development of user groups.
  • Ensure that the Principal engineers and experts in technical pool
    • Participate effectively with the architecture team in design and review sessions.
    • Drive to find solution for the critical problems / issues when they occur.
    • Collaborate with the Universities, Technology forums, Standard committees
  • Represent the technical communication with stakeholders including the customers on product quality and performance
  • Supporting final customer demo/pre-tendering/maintainability activities when needed
  • Participates in local and national user group presentations, and publishes articles describing signaling related technical activities and assessments of technology and how it relates to the business.

 

Performance measurements

  • Based on the technical pool team performance (of Principal engineers, experts … ) on the following parameters
    • Product Performance (MTBF, Issue Closing on time , FPY (First Pass Yield) for make products, Lead Time, OTIF (On Time In Full) vs Target 
    • Product Total Cost (PTC) vs Target (given by Solution) 
    • System/product compliance to committed requirements
    • Technical performance of critical technology programs
    • Implementation of core technology roadmap and policy
    • Robustification of internal & external cross collaboration with the key technical network

Competencies & Skills

  • Experience in leading the Technology teams at Business unit levels
  • Good understanding of the technology landscape from embedded to Microservices
  • Has experience in defining and driving the technical strategy in global organization
  • Capacity to have good vision of various product use case, customers, and deliveries
  • Ability to build a strong network of contacts across the business.
  • Agile communicator with the ability to influence decision makers and build consensus with teams.
  • Ability to deploy strategic initiatives through strong governance.
  • Communication skills in a technical environment
  • Interpersonal skills (teamwork and leadership)

  • Resilience in the VUCA environment
  • Technical (Example : Linux / Embedded)
  • 20 to 25 years in embedded systems /architecture
  • Previous experience in driving teams working on programming languages like, C, C++, Python/Java/C#/JavaScript
  • Extensive knowledge of Ubuntu/RedHat or others embedded Linux distributions.
  • Proven experience in designing and developing solutions based on any flavor of RTOS systems.
  • Deep knowledge of Safety software principles/standards either on the rail/aero/defense domain, like EN 50128/SARPs.
  • Experience in leading the teams who have developed and delivered on more than one environments.
    • QNX, VxWorks, PikeOS , Zephr, Wind River, NXP
  • Should be familiar with containerization technologies
